Stanley Clarke's Night School DVD

Stanley Clarke's Night School DVD

I recenlt saw the DVD entitled Night School: An Evening with Stanley Clarke and Friends.

It is a recording of a concert Stewart's one time Animal Logic bandmate Stanley Clarke did for scholarship for muscians. It is a great concert DVD of Stanely Clarke's songs, both his jazz tunes and his film compositions.

Sorry if I missed a thread on this DVD.

Stewart is on 3 of the 12 muscial tracks including Lochs of Dread, the Big Jam, and Night School.

The you tube of the Big Jam has been discussed here. It is a rare track where someone else's drumming outshines Stewart's when the remarkable Shelia E. takes all the drumming attention. Flea also makes a great showing on that track.

The version of Night School is also great, although Stewart just keeps time as many great bass guitarists and 6 string guitarists strut thier stuff, including Flea, Stewart's Gizmo bandmate Armand Sabal-Lecco, and Wayman Tilsdale, the former NBA star turn jazz bass gutiarist who died of cancer last year.

The DVD extras including an interview with someone named "Stuart Copeland" who looks and sounds just like our Stewart Copeland. The "Stuart" interview contains in its entirety:
"I am imagining that I am a kid [i.e., a student at the music school]. Looking up, Stanley Clarke on stage. My heart is palpatating, and I am expecting low frequencies. And I get them. Anything that Stanely does is important for me. He is a very important budy of mine. And ususually when he pulls off something like this always he pulls together a pretty interesting crew."
A very good DVD, even if Stewart is only on 3 tracks.

Thanks for this info, Nick. I just watched Return to Forever (Chick Corea) Live at Montreau 2008 and the man (Stanely) is amazing!
Can I assume you can purchase this DVD? I'll go check now.

Yes you can purchse it, although I got it through Nextflix.

Stanley Clarke is amazing. I saw him in cocenrt last year. Very impressive, although I wish he had played School Days.

You can also see him in Stewart in the multimedia part of this very site from thier Animal Logic Days doing not an Animal Logic song but, unless I am much mistaken, a version of School Days:

[ETA: changed the name of the song to School Days. As Jeff noted, I got it wrong.]

Damn. You are correct of course. Post edited. I love that song and the CD by that name, so you would think I could get it right.

Same here, I love the Night School dvd plus the RTF Montreux. I was lucky enough to see Stanley live with Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten on the SMV Thunder tour in Toronto back in 2008. What a fantastic show. School Days capped off the night and was certainly a highlight. As good as Marcus and Victor are (especially Victor as I love The Flecktones), Stanley stole the show. His electric bass playing is something else and is my favourite aspect of his work, but on this night, I have to say that his playing of the upright bass is what impressed me the most, so much so that I have a new appreciation for it.
