HEY NUTS!

HEY NUTS!

Postby STEWART on 01 Jan 2010 20:04

Happy New Year everybody! I hope you all had a Sexy Saturnalia.

Many thanks for all of your notes to Melisa. Many of the typos and mistakes were caught by her the first time around – but then appeared in the text anyway. For the next edition she’ll stand over the typesetters with a flattened tuba.

Meanwhile it’s heaven here in obscurity. I’m writing little pieces for percussion ensemble, kind of a Mkrokosmos for drums. They will, I hope, be coming soon to a conservatory near you. The studio has also been clanging with Gamelan bells for a mission that you all know about but which isn’t yet formally announced. It’s going to be waaay cool!

I hope you all have a great year. And a good next decade too!

Best,

Stewart

P.S. Am I the only person who likes showers?

Back at you, Maestro!

I just got the audio edition of Strange Things Happen yesterday so I'm doing alot of driving around today ( no time for more than one shower...)
As to your shower(s): everybody's got to take some s--t about something and yours is showers! It could be worse...

New percussive ensemble work. That is exciting and hope to be able hear them when premiered.

On a shower-esque topic, my son (who showed about a week after La Jolla) can't shower but isn't too fond of baths right now.

Hey Stewart! Happy New Year! Nice to hear from you. :)

Don't get me wrong--I don't know anyone who doesn't love a good shower.
But you have some professional editors in your midst here. You should see what I just did to someone's 3,000 word article after I told him I wanted 1,800 words.

I am glad to hear the edits we've posted were caught before. You just might want someone at the printer looking at the pages as they come off press. The printer will love that (NOT).

So, you got that tuba back then?

Happy New Year to you and yours, Stewart. Thanks for popping in.

In my opinion, long hot showers are one of the greatest joys of modern civilization. They're a superb place to get some serious thinking done.

I remember seeing an old interview (5 years old or so) on the Internet. It was with some young, obscure interviewer and was quite in-depth. He asked Stewart a question about where he gets his greatest ideas and inspiration. Without missing a beat, Stewart answered, "In the shower." The guy looked at Stewart like he was nuts. But I understood what he meant immediately. Stewart then went into a long explanation about how he's able to clear his head and think things out while in the shower. The guy never really looked too convinced. If I have a chance, I'll try to google up the interview for y'all.

ETA: I found it! Actually, the interview comes courtesy of our own lovely TOWOS who posted it in the link section about a year and a half ago. The interview isn't too old; it's from the Sundance days. And my memory didn't serve me too well. Instead of trying to explain his shower answer, Stewart changes his answer to the bike path, which the guy more readily believes. The shower question is fairly early on in the interview.

In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.
