OT: did you hear the new I Blame Coco?

I am sooooo disappointed. This is definitely NOT the music I like.
I will cherish the old recordings I have. They were really good!

And it seems like she's fired her band. :?:

I've never heard Self Machine before, it sounds good to me, I like it. :)

Caeser though... I just can't get into it. :(
It's fun to dance to, but it's definitely not one of her better songs.

Who or what is Kipper? :?:[/quote]

he's the man that some hold responsible for assisting the ineluctable progression of gordo's musical output to offensively bland levels of smooth jazz-wankery and AOR-ness.....well, i blame him anyway... and the mans haircut? what a c**t.

shame that coco has been changed, not surprised the band went to be honest; bunch of stoned crusties; much weasier and cheaper to hire in people and tell them what to play.... and the daughter of gordo would be much too precious quarry for a label to be allowed to release anything less than over-produced, aimed-at-the-masses music... shame, the charm in those early tunes was, for me, all in the imperfections and the relaxed, lo-fi nature of the recordings....

Ya know, I kinda like the new stuff. Liked the old more, but Smaxie's right - no way this thing was going forward with the songs sounding the way they did.

Anybody seen any of her gigs of late?
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

She's actually addressed this on her myspace blog. I suppose a lot of people were commenting on the change.

old material

i understand that some of you seem to prefer old ska-ish demos. thank you for liking them. the truth is that the progression in music is like the progression life. i have been writing and writing and it seems i have found a new sound. if you prefer what the the earlier stuff was then brillant. if you can listen to the new stuff and come to a gig then even better. i hope i see some of you at the reading gig at the oakford socail club on the 20th

I LOVE YOU ALL

I went to an "accoustic" set of hers at the boogaloo around 2 months ago. She had some of her band there and was sounding really good. Played "no smile" solo at the end which was great. Then around a month ago I checked up on her myspace page and saw that she'd re-uploaded "no smile", so I played it and it completely changed the way I perceive her music then and there.

Basically here in London there is much more of a market for trendy looking post-punks playing over-produced music that can be played in a club. Ska wouldn't sell as well. I'm sure someone (Al Shux?) sat her down and said: "Look, how about if I give you millions of pounds and make you extremely famous and successful. All you have to do is FORGET SKA AND REGGAE!" So now it's all about this shitty over-produced single and I've been seeing "I BLAME COCO NEW SINGLE OUT FEBRUARY FIRST" posters all over town with pictures of her looking brooding and depressed.

She's sold out, and I can't say I blame Coco (hahaha...) because if the opportunity presented itself I'm sure most of us would do the same. But all this running mascara all over her face and this stupid emo-punk vibe to her music just turns me right off.

Oh well, I'll always have the Darkstar 7inch.
