STING interview: A NEW POLICE ALBUM IS POSSIBLE !!!

ditto the above points, but some for and againsts:

what ever happened to the acoustic album that was described in the tourzilla programme? we know that failed miserably. i hardly think that'd make them want to rush into the studio again....especially stewart who sounded like he may have enjoyed the process the least judging by the jordan shot stuff on certifiable, and the slight about gordo hiring an arranger unaware of stewart's composing experience: which is a story i do not buy at all.

i'm not sure stewart ever turns anything down, and the rate with which collaborations, large and small, appear is alarming and sometimes quietly done (like when did he do the BT thing cillae posted in the links page?!)

During his recent media appearances Gordo said that he would be doing a 'Rock' (for want of a better word) album next year.

If anything was planned i'm sure andy would have blurted something out by now.

Y-A-W-N.
Trick to keep the fans thrilled.

It has been told ad nauseam that they get along only when it does not come to music.
No desire to see them become a litigious parody of themselves, as the Stones.

The Stones are not part of any meaningful litigation at all.
Silly thing to say...in fact they're working on some new material and hopefully the fans will witness another great tour!

The Police could definitely learn how to keep a family together and remain relevant from them.
Its just too much work and commitment for some.

a new album? wow... i hope !

everybody have seen the result of the reunion, as well the fab 3!
they plays much better, great sound, tickets sold out...and there is a little
aspect: fans want the police again...more to see themselves in their solo projects!
the police split up so soon ...it was probably the only big mistake of their career,
as a band they have again something to tell and to write on the music history...

...may be they could use some demos from ghost in the machine period:

here's my useful contribution:
i think all threads related to yet more unfounded reunion / album "revelations", especially when written in capitals with exclamation marks, should be banned. i mean seriously... yawwnnnnn

(yes i am the christmas scrooge.... and i know i've effectively bumped this "flogging the dead horse for a billionth time" thread by commenting in it.... sigh!)

And i think for stewart it would be a great challenge....to play his drums again for the police !
It would be a dream...like it was before the reunion tour....all laughed about me...and many others like jose....but we believed in the rumours of 2006 christmas time.....and then it becomes reality......

How would they sound in 2010 ????
A difficult question.....but hope is there....

I alternate between a big yawn and a big smile at the thought of it. And yet here I am commenting on the topic.
Rest assured I don't think about it until a thread goes on for a while.
There are plenty of teases--Sting goes from talking about being sick during the tour to this? Without tone of voice...and I assume he was speaking in English and this was translated to French so who knows what was really really said. And, ahem, sorry but STEWART talks about the band in present tense ("we're good for each other," is a quote I can produce off the top of my head). Some of you know that makes me nuts.
And besides appearing at various concerts, we don't seem to know what Andy has been saying. Poor Andy, no one has badgered him lately! *misses Andy*

BUT...in reading the demo titles Kipper posted here...I see a theme brewing.

Anyway, the whole definition of "possible" means that because all three of them are alive and well, it is POSSIBLE to record but it is NOT PROBABLE. And that is really okay with me. And if it became PROBABLE that would be great too.

Quite simply I wish them happiness and success--by THEIR definition of success.

From a ways back:

I don't think U2 are a collection of some of the greatest musicians on the planet - more a band who have figured out how to play to their individual strengths
.

Oh, yeah. I'm not comparing the Police to U2 - just saying I think Sting is, well, mildly jealous of Bono.

I think as a body of work, Police albums are stronger. But then, I haven't been really blown away by a U2 album since Joshua Tree, FWIW.

I think Stewart put it brilliantly - SOMEWHERE - don't ask me to remember where - when he said something about how U2 has kept it going for so long because it's a a group of guys happy to ride along on what Bono wants to dish to them...not to diminish (if you like U2, I don't, but that's a personal thing) what they do as a group, but...it's a group where the main bandleader is allowed to dictate things and the others are happy to go along with that. Whereas the strife within the Police (and what I would say was the source of much of their creative energy) was the creative tension between Sting, Stewart and Andy.

I dunno. It just seems like the bands I consider in my upper echelon - namely The Beatles, The Police, and Pink Floyd - are all groups where the conflict between band members artistically lead to IMHO some of the best popular/rock music ever written. When one person is allowed to dictate or lead a band too much, it becomes like an author who refuses to use an editor - the overall work suffers even when there might be good stuff found within. And that's one of the problems I have with U2 and other groups where it seems like one person has become the defactor leader without anyone else willing - or allowed - to provide constructive criticism.

Regarding U2, I love the story of The Police 'passing the baton' to U2 at the Amnesty Show in 1986 by passing their instruments to them. But not before Sting and Andy detuned their guitars.

Regarding a possible Police album, I would be the first in line to buy an album of the three of them farting into a microphone. How could you NOT want a new Police album??? Sure, Sting would try and run the show but he wouldn;t be able to keep the God of Thunder totally in check.
