Now I collect all that wonderful '70s and '80s music I couldn't afford back then- most of it on LP.
Hello Bry

When you say LP do you mean vinyl or are you, like me, gradually collecting all the music that you loved from that era on cd?

Walked a mile each way at age 10 to spend my $4 (four dollars) to bring home my
very own Beatles '65 album, even though Abbey Road had come out that year, I was catching up!

First 45 was "Twelve Thirty" by the Mamas and the Papas, I won it as a
prize by tossing ping-pong balls into Goldfish bowls at a church carnival !

"Idea" by the Bee Gees. I blush.

I'm baaaaaack!
Dying to post to this thread.
I blogged about this very idea in september.
I always ask my new students this question.

Thriller is probably the first record I went in and handed over cash for:
http://dcguitarlessons.blogspot.com/200 ... th-my.html

However, I think I actually bought some other things before that now.
I don't remember going to the store, but I believe I purchased some Village People myself.
Although there's no way that was 'my own money'. I was, like, 5. Definitely Birthday Money.

I think my parents were sure I was gay at that moment.
What with the batman costumes, and now the Village People?
But see, at that point, I had no idea that the Village People were from Greenwich Village.
I just thought it was dope that there was a cowboy, a construction worker, a cop....

What's so wrong with "In The Navy" when you're playing with G.I. Joes, Y'know?

Badump bump.

My first album was a gift from my parents. Avril Lavigne's "Let Go". I have no idea where it is now, but I can't say I'm sad that I can't find it. ;)
Why, hello there.

The first album I ever got was "Dangerous" by Michael Jackson. My mom bought it when I was just a few years old. Still have it on vinyl. And I still think it's a great album.

I'm not sure what the first album I bought was, though. Might have been a cassette of Whitney Houston's greatest hits.

I think it was in 1977 when I bought my very first album.
But I'm not sure whether it was

(reading the sleeve notes I was surprised to find Paul Weller playing guitar on this album)

or

...oh man, at the time I really loved the songs "When you're in love with a beautiful woman" and "Sexy eyes"

Cheers,

P.S. Oh, and my first CD was "Andy Summers - XYZ"!
