OT: Beware the bass: "Loud bass music ‘killed student’"

Certain sounds and volumes can make me feel motion-sick, but damn:

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/805430-loud ... t-tom-reid

Excerpt:
Tom Reid, 19, was taken ill in a crowded London club after standing close to the speakers and telling a friend: ‘The bass is affecting me.’

There was no trace of alcohol or drugs in his body and his heart was in good condition.

A coroner recorded a verdict of natural causes, saying the straight-As student was killed by sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS), a heart disorder which kills 12 young people a week.

Cardiac experts said the bass could have triggered SADS if Mr Reid had underlying, yet unknown, genetic problems.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Uh oh. Sadly, this will remain embedded in my brain along with the thousands of other rare but equally deadly underlying health problems that too much time at WEB MD will make you aware of. Poor kid.

For once our newspapers here haven't gone sensationalist (beyond the odd headline). Incredibly sad for friends and family - and hard for everyone who was there on the night, not least the first aider at the venue who was trying to figure out what was going on, and did everything right - but young people do just keel over and die sometimes.

A plea to all. If someone complains of their heart racing, or keels over - call an ambulance. You may get yelled at by the paramedics if it is just a drunk twit, and most times it will be a drunk twit, so most times you'll get yelled at. The other times it will be a drunk twit who has given themselves a head injury on the way down to the floor, a diabetic having a hypo, someone with undiagnosed arrhythmia, or (like a member of my family - who is now fully recovered) a stroke at age 22 due to a tiny, undiagnosed hole in the heart.
