STEWART: Gift Idea for your adoring fans...

Postby Stephen on 08 Dec 2009 20:27

Okay, so being a complete technophile, i'm a little bit embarrassed to admit i'm WAY behind the curve in cell phone technology. I've finally just gotten a cell phone that can play a proper MP3 file as a ring tone. So, of course, one of my first orders of business was to cut a 30 second sample of "Theme for Kinetic Ritual" and set it as my ringtone.

But it got me thinking, what would really be cool is if we had an Official stewartcopeland.net MP3 ring tone. Surely a prolific composer such as yourself could rip out a 30 second masterpiece in no time flat? Just a thought... maybe something to think about when you're sitting in the studio or on plane or in a hotel room with your macbook and nothing else to do.

As a side question for everyone, to keep this thread going, whats on YOUR ringtone? Stewart Copeland related stuff is preferred, but whatever... My other MP3 ring tone is the audio from the classic Sesame Street skit of when the "Yip Yip" aliens meet the telephone.

Cheers,

Stephen

I was using one of the unreleased Spyro tracks from the Spyro Rank 2 Stewart's Vault edition to alert me when I had voicemail for a while because it had a lot o bells on it. It was probably track 12. I haven't gotten around to figuring out how to do it with with my newest phone yet.

Yeah, I knew about that one. It would be a good choice, except that i'm waaaay to cheap (and poor) at the moment to pay for a Blackberry (or rather, the service that it requires). I'm currently using no-contract cell phone, which is why i'm stuck with relatively crappy equipment. :P

Service plans are outrageous, which is why I don't have a Blackberry Bold either.

I've stared using Pay as you go sim cards in my unlocked GSM quad band phone with Google voice and it's great (I'm using a Nokia E63 with T-mobile right now). You give someone your Google Voice number and tell it to ring to your cell phone or however as many phones as you like and they all ring when you get a call. If you decide to switch to another carrier, then you just tell Google voice to ring to that cell phone number instead without having to give everyone else a new number every time you switch. Of course, you do have to give everyone the google voice at first when you get, so it's still a bit of a pain but at least you're not tied down to a carrier or having to wait for them to switch the numbers when you move.

I also have a PAYG setup on a Motorola I use when I travel. Con, what company are you using for yours? I tried T-Mobile and they are crazy expensive, like 10 cents a minute. Can you get PAYG data plans?

I may email you about this...

Right now I'm using t-mobile. But I don't talk a lot on my cell and you can find deals on adding minutes every so often. I don't use it much for data, but it comes with basic t-zones which includes free access to yahoo if you use that as your primary web email.

Yeah, that would be a good one. I made a "Driver 8" (REM) one for my wife's phone.

<-------BTW What the heck is this gold figure that appears next to my (and your) photo but no one elses?
(oh, nevermind, I just figured out it must mean i'm online d'oh!)

For awhile my ringtone was "Too Kool to Kalpyso" (thanks iTunes, for charging me twice), but it was too silly even for me.
