Way OT but: Oasis possibly funniest breakup ever

I know I'm a horrible, horrible person for this, but I have to admit that this made me laugh and laugh:

Liam Gallagher: 'My new band may still be named Oasis'

http://www.nme.com/news/oasis/48660

My fave is "Liam went on to explain that the band wouldn't play any songs written by Noel when they play live" (!), but be sure to read to the end for the sibling love.

Family dinners must be a trip.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

These two have been at war since each emerged from the womb. I remember shaking my head in college reading about their non stop bickering and break up/make up tango. We had an ongoing debate about who reigned supreme--Oasis or Blur? Then we moved on to the next band in line. Fickle, I know - but we were young. Good times.

There are some bands one just never gets into and sometimes there isn't a particular reason. Just can't pay good attention to everyone. Oasis would be one of those bands for me.

That said, he's painted himself into a corner with the "I'll always be fucking busy" comment. Great stuff!
I'd laugh even harder if this new venture ends up sucking and then suddenly he is free.

I guess the question is, does anyone care either way? All I seem to hear about these guys is one of them bitching about someone and a few good songs. Or am I underrating them?
Oasis or Blur?
I can only think of one song that I'm sure is by Blur. I hate to make the obvious pun here, but they really do blur into so many other bands in my head.

I know they have their place, but for me, that's about the sum of it as well. Which honestly makes it all that much funnier. I have this image in my head of a line of famously, legendarily broken-up bands, all lined up and surrounded by big white columns à la Mount Olympus, eating popcorn and pointing and saying, "Get a load of these guys."
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

The thing is Liam is definitely a charismatic rock star and band leader, and he can also write good songs; if he will release a new record, everything will be in the hands of the producer.
Noel is a great guy, I like his way of writing, but I guess Liam shouldn't be underrated.

Anyway, the whole thing is a total SPINAL-TAPesque!

Oasis made outstanding music and the breakup is just as outstanding.
Liam is the savior of cool RnR vocals and Noel wrote songs he couldn't sing.

The bands tumultuous ride is not unlike the Police. Stew and Sting acted very much like brothers wrestling for control of the band. One could write great songs and lead while the other brought an unimaginable drive and swagger as well as a hell of a back beat.

Liam is an idiot to think he will not be singing Champagne Supernova again.

Watch what happens. Unlike the Police, I don't think you will be waiting 23 years for a sequel.

Long live Oasis (in reruns at my house)

Well yes, with age came wisdom and I finally figured out that Blur did in fact make mince meat of Oasis. I spent far too much time trying to find bars with five cent drafts during that period of my life, so clearly my priorities were out of order.

Q magazine has one of these "best bands of all time" issues out now (in the U.S. so it may be an old issue for folks overseas) and I picked it up to take a quick look. Guy next to me at the newsstand mutters out loud "Oasis? Huh? Why?"
