no doubt! the worse sting album!
even the musicians are excellent...i don't like his vocal performence and i don't
like the songs of this album..i save just 2 tracks: the burning babe and soul cake.
about the version of the hounds of winter: unbelievable he "killed" one of his wonderfull masterpiece!.
experiment failled!!!
what's up on his mind? he suffer the reunion with his old friends and he try again to run away from them?
( i kidding... )

i hope springtime will give to him better inspirations... because i can do better... much better!

have a nice evening!

Well, I finally gave it a good listen yesterday. Before that my husband would yell "what is that CRAP?!" from the other room a few songs in and since I half heartedly wanted to hear it, I would turn it off. Yeah, he's officially gone certifiable. 100% blind faith has been LOST forever. I agree about the singing... I like the traditional singing but not when he tries too hard. Gabriel's Message is a MESS. Hounds of Winter is awful. Soul Cakes is OK and there 2 more whose names escape me that are tolerable, but nothing that I love. I will watch the special tonight on PBS out of morbid curiosity... you know, like when you feel like you have to slow down to see a car wreck?! I haven't seen any of the media. Probably a good thing!

Well, I haven't purchased a Sting album in DECADES (I was given the lute CD- but haven't listened to it yet  ). I, however, purchased this one with the bonus DVD. I'm giving it a first listen right now. I've only gotten about 1/3 the way thru, but I can say I liked the other version of Gabriel's Message he did a couple of years back better. Soul Cake is a catchy ditty. I'll have to listen to the whole thing a few times before I can really decide. I noticed Stewart's bud Daniel Hope plays on a couple of tracks.

I'll probably watch the show tonight if it's not on opposite Survivor (gotta see what rascally Russell is up to now).

They're not even playing the Sting Great Performances show on my local PBS station!
We've got David Foster and friends WTF is David Foster? And then Pete Seeger's 90th birthday celebration, which has already been on! Bummer!

I'm watching it right now on the local PBS HD channel. They're playing Soul Cake.

If you find you really can't stand it, I know who you could re-gift it to...

I've put two tracks on my ipod and I seriously will never ever listen to any of it again, so the first person to email me on halcyonlisa at hotmail dot com can have my copy for free (bear in mind I am in the UK so postage may take a while at this sociable time of the year ;))

How I love it! It's great.
Right now it's one of the best selling cd of these weeks in Italy.
Dvd came out yesterday, and will probably sell well too.

hmmm, i think it would be kind to say that it's had a mixed reception from the copelandia jury.... i haven't listened to it for a third time.
wonder what the views are on the pro-gordo sites? is everyone lovin' it?

i'm afraid to say that it's going to get wrapped and given to my (disliked) step-father-in-law for chrimbo...

Actually, I'm listening to it right now (again). I kinda like that kind of music, and especially during the holidays. Just maybe I don't like it from Sting. But I guess I do. Right now at least. I hope he puts out something "normal" again, however.

I can only say that it's impossible to make everyone happy...I always say the story of Zenyatta Mondatta...I remember that when it came out, most of the fans were totally disappointed, same thing with Ghost in The Machine. Many hardcore fans were unhappy about the commercial step the band took, were angry about the lack of originality that Reggatta had instead, and said the band just sold its soul to the big public doing bad songs.
Comments were more or less the ones I'm reading here.
You really can't make everyone happy, but the most important thing is that an artist should be happy about his work, and that he does it with an honest mood towards the music (then we all know that in a position like Sting, you have to deal with tons of other elements that sometimes makes you move not exaclty like your head is telling you, but I totally trust Sting and I'm totally sure he did it with all his passion and creativity...and sincerely, listening to the record, I feel it).

Thanks for sharing this, Gio. I had no idea. My memory of a "new" Police album was when Ghost in the Machine came out, and I knew no other Police fans--my friends at the time were leaning toward heavy metal. I remember the video for ELTSDIM being played on TV/MTV a lot and it seemed to be popular (among the masses, that is, but even my headbanger friends enjoyed it). But now that you mention this I can see how that could have been disruptive to those who had a fixed idea of what the Police should be and sound like.

The rest of your comments, Gio, are very well stated and I agree 100% so no need for me to add anything.

I have no doubt about it. And that's how it should be even if I don't like it! Which I think is ok too because I do think he is a great artist.
