OT: Thanks to our Armed Services

Postby animal on 11 Nov 2009 14:52

A Big Thank You to all our veterans near & far for the service to your country.

And those commerating Remberance / Armistice Day

For the Fallen

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

I just got back from the Remembrance Day service
That missing man formation gets me teared-up every time
I usually put on Pink Floyd's Final Cut album and think about our men and women who have given so much for our country.

What the hell does that mean?
°It means I’ve failed as a parent.

God bless all who have been brave enough to serve while we bitch and moan...which I am going to do right now.
I worked in the VA sytem for 6 months...WTF!!!! Throw guys to the meatgrinder, they come home to be spit on after nam...then you have the whole fucked up VA system and I mean FUCKED UP...its degrading...I have been in European hospitals better equipped...and doctor wise...forget it..mostly down and out guys or docs speaking little English or very unqualified...these vets deserve top notch AND free....thats a handout I want to give.

AND, no property taxes and free college education and health care for that vet and offspring...compliments of us spoiled brat head citizens who fuckin worry about where Suzys next soccer game is Saturday and how to carpool to get there. Suck it up nation...these guys deserve it...does the nutter gang know that there is 113,000 homeless vets right now...what the fuck!!! And Im handing out fuckin HUD housing to people who dont know how to put on a condom...keep your dick in your pants asshats...or get fixed like a cat... learn how to jerk off....Christ we got some honorary citizens in Camden with freakin nine kids...and they dont know where they are at half the time...
Sorry gang, these guys deserve top notch anything and everything...sockii will tell you...NONE of my vets get a bill from me...compliments of ME!! and Im damn proud of it when I can help them..anybody seen Normandy or the hills surrounding Monte Cassino?..I dont want to hear no shit about these goddamn celebrities and their pimples or cellulite after seeing that...or these sports idiots who cant play because their pinkie hurts...we have no concept what veterans went thru and then we throw them to the wolves when they come home..sad commentary from a depressed vespapod today...
Life is good when you have great sunsets and sockii everyday!!

It's been said many times today, but it's still not enough. Thanks to those who served, continue to serve and will serve in the future.

Thank you for this thread, Animal. And thank you Vespapod for your post and for your personal service to Vets!
My Dad is a WW2 vet ( my folks were 40 when they had me-oops! I wasn't just the flu afterall, Mom! heehee), an uncle wounded in France by mine, former boyfriend fixed F-4's in the Navy, 2 cousins served in Gulf, the husband of one of my Library patrons heads to Iraq next yr., and a friend of mine since 8th grade is heading out to Afghanistan right now. I can't pray enough it seems, the list grows. Anyone willing to stand between me and The Fool in my defense may please have my whole meager wallet, and anything else. At my mountaineering stoer job, these kids really, except they aren't kids anymore, stop by to by nightvision headlamps, Camelbacks, carabiners, whatever, and we talk a little about their special forces tours, doing watch and guard duty in Iraq or Afgh.. No way to step into their shoes.....and when I've thanked them, a couple have actually teared up.
Please, folks, regardless of how you vote, etc, please thank our Service folks. And some ofthe older ones are finally ready to tell their stories, so please be willing to listen.
The American civil war ended abt. 1/2 hr. down the road from where I grew up, and my grandfather had 2 uncles who fought in that war, one North(conscripted) and South. Our Service men & women do their jobs to keep conflicts like that away from here. Vespa, I toatally second all that you said and what you have observed!!

Sorry, know this is over 10 days old, but. There is a base here in Savannah and we are around military personnel all the time. Want to make somebody feel great including yourself? Next time you're in a restaurant and see one of our men (or women) in uniform, pay their tab. You don't have to even let them know you did it. We need to recognize these brave folks more than once a year. And vespa, I agree with everything you say. You da man.
Still rockin' after all these years
