Isn't that GREAT???
I love this kind of Sting, always surprising, never boring! I love it when an artist drives me to areas where I've never been before...and this record is exactly like that! And I can't stop listening to the new album; I find it inspiring, musically very interesting, and at every new listening I discover new little gems...this guy is definitely clever (but I knew that already). There are a few tracks that still do not gets me in...that's ok, just two or three, but that's HIS record, not mine...ehehe (anyway track 6,7 and 9).

I love this song. I love Sting's vocals on THIS song because he sounds like Sting, however, on many of the other songs on this Winter album he sounds terrible because he uses THAT annoying vocal style like he did on the lute album. To each his own, but to me, if Sting sounded this way on all the songs, I would have loved this album.

i like someone else's comment that it sounds like it's being played backwards! strings are ok, but vocals are just too fucking weird....

That is my fave Gordo noise too! Look at him looking all Chris Kringle. He's a sly dog, that one.

I don't know the arrangement, so I can't be sure, but the reaction of Sting and Dom right before that noise makes me think that the fiddlers missed the ending.

About 3:04, It looks like Dom and Sting are surprised when the fiddlers keep playing: they both turn and look.

Honestly, I was surprised. The fiddle part is kind of a rhythmic texture more than anything else, so I was surprised that it'd be featured in a breakdown. The fact that the fiddlers don't do anything special there is the giveaway, to me. But I'm still not sure.

Then, Dom and Sting Both raise their picking hands as if to wave or signal the fiddlers, but they realize it's too late: they are on TV. And the Today show is Live. Sting recovers, pumping his fist. Makes the fave noise, and does basically the same ending, louder, again.

I'm still not sure, but the grin Sting flashes towards Dom's side about 3:22 makes me think that it was a great recovery, and not the planned ending! I love stuff like that.

This is a vid of Fishbone on SNL in 1992 or 1993, I think. Sorry for the myspace Url, SNL is such a bitch about youtube:

At 4:05, that is the rehearsed ending of the song. The drummer keeps playing, and they make a fantastic recovery. (This live recovery story I know for a fact. I asked their drummer about it a couple of months later, and he remembered it and confirmed it.)

Can you ask Stingo about it, Gio? Would he even tell?

Oh father Christmas... Give me some money...

Hmmmm. It IS the 'Masako' noise, isn't it?!

Really kinda loving this. I'll let you know if I hear of Stingo playing the Ryman anytime soon. ;) Hey, if Elvis can do it...

I can try; if nobody's around he gives me all the answers I want...but it's not easy in this case being here for promotion.
