Hear, Hear: Sting claims to have read STH...

Well, I guess on some level I don't really CARE if he read it or not, the book isn't about ME. :)

..but more to the point is that I continue to notice that Sting doesn't say anything outwardly negative and never really has about Stewart or Andy...you can read anything you want into what he does say. I know what I DID HEAR Sting say at MSG and that was that he called Stewart and Andy "two of the finest musicians on the planet." I will choose to believe he meant that and if he didn't that's not my problem!

Let's see what happens when Sting is on Letterman. the Today show will be too vapid and play it safe but Dave has nothing to lose by asking pointed questions.

I had zero plans to watch Sting on Letterman, but I guess I may catch it to see if he mentions anything about the Police. I guess I assumed that he was only going to talk about his solo stuff. You know, promote stuff coming out rather than talk about the tour that is already over.

Who knows whether he's read it or not (I personally don't care).

Sting and Stewart are different animals. They operate differently. Stewart's always been more outspoken because that's the kind of person he is. Whereas Sting puts his thoughts down in verse, Stewart's come flying out of his mouth. And, we know that's gotten him in some deep shit. (*ahem* Madam President)

The mistaken myth that The Boys hate each other will persist long after all three of them are gone. The only thing some people think they know about them is that tension. In fact, a co-worker asked me about it only yesterday (I set her straight). "The old tempers flared" sells more books than "We had group hugs and our wives thought it was sweet."

Yeah, he has taken plenty of jabs at Sting. But, for every one jab, he's said 2 complementary things. He admits to loving the man like a brother. He even put him in the liner notes on his anthology after his own beloved brother Ian, "To my brothers Miles, Ian, Sting and Andy."

Maybe all the shit that went down with the anger and frustration during Ghost and Synch weighed much heavier on Stewart than it did on Sting. And, time may not necessarily heal all wounds. Sting does admit here he's difficult to work with.

Bottom line, I don't think Sting really cares what Stewart says, and, yes, Stewart can be an asshole about things he says. BUT, when it comes to Sting, he (along with Andy) is unequivilically qualified to say them.

Good article BTW.

I think Sting should read the book if he hasn't.

It's like sitting at the dinner table and not listening to the dinner tales.

I do believe that Sting read the book 8)

I remember Andy saying that Sting called him up and said he read The whole book and not just the chapters about him

My take on the feline grin
“I think he's been pretty fair about me.” Then he sighs, acknowledging 30 years of water roiling under the bridge. “You know, I'm not the easiest person to be in a band with.”

I agree. I think he read it this time. I believe the "loose ends" mean that they finally did their farewell tour. I mean, the last leg was announced that "this is it, we're done..." We remember Andy's Behind The Music interview from years back where he lamented that "we never did a farewell tour, thank you to the fans, etc." They finally did it and we're now learning that they tried to do new things but failed and a greatest hits tour was the best way to say goodbye.

Perhaps the "feline" smile was simply a reaction somewhat like a roll of the eyes, but more polite. As in, "Here they come again, a newly rehashed version of the same old questions about the ego rivalry and infighting."

While I acknowledge that they augment earning their supper this way, giving interviews has GOT to be boring. The same questions, reworded over and over, each interviewer thinking he or she is going to be the ONE to get them to really open up and share the "real story" whatever that might be (if there is one). Dropping little quizzical lines and smiling little mysterious smiles might be an intentional misdirection that Sting uses to divert the interviewer's attempts -- to make them think they have captured something new by giving them just barely enough to question whether further inquiry would be wasteful of their limited time with him. In that light, a smile seems a very clever use of expression because it brings the interviewer closer -- makes them feel a sense of camraderie -- where a roll of the eyes might alienate them.

Chances are he isn't even aware he smiled. I know I don't plan or record every facial expression I project and I would hate to have someone else do it. If someone took time to dissect each one of them, as we often do with Sting, goodness knows the mal-intent that could be imagined. Because we can't possibly know his thoughts, why not give him the benefit of the doubt.

Well, that was not the intent of my post, but they kind of take a life of their own. I'm reading Life of the Net and it is one of the risks of the cyberworld. And, again (story of my life) of cultural diversity. What I think is funny is not necessarily funny for others. But that's the way things are.

Serious over-analysis was not implied. It was just tongue-in-cheek as in: (Dramatic chord) Has he (Escalating chord) really (Painful drum roll) read it??? Only Stingo knows the truth, of course. And let's leave it as that.

Sorry if I just cannot be standard **PC** - I probably will have to add "I'M NOT SERIOUS!!!" at the beginning of every post.

I think he has read it.

The guy is a bookworm. He probably read the whole thing over his morning Earl Grey. I was happy to read all the positive stuff Stewart mentions. He really has his back, I think.

I like how all three wrote totally different books. Different styles, different time periods. I really liked all three.

- Stingo's book - Very well written, serious vibe to it.
- Andyo's book - riviting and hilarious.
- Stewarts book - fast, funny, and all over the place.

Maybe next they will write a book together ?

Stingo - "Right! Stewart! I'm telling you! it should be in quotes!
Stewart - "Blah! next you'll tell me to write with my right hand!
Andy - "you wankers done?, are we putting any of my nude photograhy in ?....WHAT?"

heh,heh.

Cheers everyone and Here, Here !

Oh Towos, I wasn't assuming you had bad intent in your commentary. Not at all. I also think that it is amusing to see how these interviews are interpreted and re-interpreted. Please don't preface your posts with any disclaimers on my account -- I like that you say exactly what you think. I was just stating my opinion too. Just say "no" to *PC*!

not to get off topic but if I could make a positive statement.

This thread is a prime example why Nutters rule.

We have so many opinions and can argue our points.

but this is the only forum that works out it's own issues. So awesome.

I really enjoy reading you guys when I am totally opposite, perspective.

Here,Here!...umm...Lassie?.

Ok back to Stingo and what he has or hasn't read and such.
