It may or may not be listenable (frankly his last two stabs at pop/rock BND and Sacred Love were crap) BUT he did pick up the phone and ring the God of Thunder and Andy a few years ago...

Sting gets a pass from me for making that phone call.

After hearing some samples of this record, here is the effect it had on me:
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
But Gio has a point. It could be useful for some fireside "apres ski" ambient mood purposes I suppose.

Well, I think he's been "certifiable" for a while now... Tourzilla was a bonus side effect for us!

Dietmar Dietmar, you are killing me! hahaha You know that I love Sting, I really love, he is THE man for me! But I have to agree with you in some points...I miss the Sting of Mercury Falling and Ten Summoner´s Tales...I will give that cd a chance when I listen to it complete!! But I have to say that is not the Sting that I prefer..Ok, I said it!!!!!!!!!!!! God, forgive me, haha...Anyway, he is still MY MAN, I love you Stewart but I am a Sting girl!! But, for the first time in my life, I have to recognize that I´n not that happy with this cd!
Towos, you should be proud of me! LOL

No one questions the talent, nor the artistry behind Sting.. but as artists grow, not everyone follows... the new album is like watching wallpaper peel slowly.

I think I'm going to love this album.

I'm listening to the snippets on I-tunes right now. First thought out of the gate on Gabriel's Message was to completely agree with Dietmar about his voice. What the hell was he thinking there? I loved the original version, which supposedly was just a demo. Then I think, with just the snippets of the songs, it's like seeing the tiny corner of a painting and saying you don't like the painting as a whole. At least that's the way I look at it. I went to sting.com and there is a little video of Sting talking about the album with some more extended versions of some songs on the album and, yeah, I'm gonna love it.

I love all kinds of music and there are all kinds of albums and songs for all our moods. This one is definitely not for when you are in a rockin, headbanging mood. This is a cuddle up in front of the fire with a nice hot cocoa. This is for quiet, peaceful times. This is for soul soothing.

ANNNDDD, on the opposite side of the coin.... Seeing the direction Sting's last few solo albums have taken, indicates more and more to me that he just can't "get it up" musically anymore. He's lost his mojo for writing new music. If he keeps going at this rate and there are more haters of this album than lovers, then mayyyybe my wish (as well as E-L's) will come true and she and I can say "nani nani bo bo" to all you naysayers. :P

But for now? I'm happy to have something to look forward to this winter. Thanks, Sting.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't realize people had gone on for three pages about how much they hate it/love it and that someone already posted the clip I referred to above. =) Carry on.

Didn't like it - what happened to his voice? I prefer Yo Ho Ho for celebrating winter...

Oh my gong! Now I'm gonna have to listen to Sting's album. I'm salivating at the idea of a long compare and contrast analysis thread with Yo Ho Ho and one of the winter Sting songs. I just have to wait for DM to get on her feet again! Woo hoo. I can't wait!

Oh my! Listen to me! I'm on the brink of a relapse. I've been Yo Ho Ho free for almost a year now! (I was hoping to get my one year pin at next month's meeting.) Addiction is a very bad thing. It makes people steal, lie, cheat, and it almost made me want to listen to Sting's winter album.

I just read that Sting's concert from Durham castle will be broadcast on PBS stations nationally on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26. DVDs of this show will be available as of Nov. 24. It seems unusual that the DVD will be on sale before being aired on TV.
