Since I'll be hosting the lovely Larissa when she comes back to Philly for the Vultures, I guess I'm in the market for a ticket to the EFC show if anyone has a spare (ha ha ha ha yeah right) (otherwise I'll wait to the last minute and hope I can find a deal on craigslist, usually works as NFW am i gonna pay stubhub prices.)

YO!

If you're trying for NYC tix, the presale code is in ALL CAPS and is NOT plural. Single bird only.

(Jackasses.)

ETA:
ear or no ear, I'd buy tickets. SOMEONE will want them, these shows have been selling out, and going for the bucks.
Thanks, empty. I had the same thought last night. Much obliged, though.

And thanks to PRule for nearly filling in as my second for the (screwed up) presale!

Oh good gong. I can't believe they screwed up a pre-sale again. In the UK, they sent out the wrong link for the pre-sale sites. That got fixed at the 11th hour, and the code worked, but the agency websites were shocking. First round of US pre-sales they got the wrong code with a couple of shows, and the wrong start time for the sale with others. And now this. Hope everyone here came through unscathed and ticketed.

Yeah, presales have been screwed from top to bottom. Despite hating the company, I really felt for whoever runs the LiveNation Twitter account: I suspect he or she got slammed by a lot of angry presalers.

I haven't followed this thread very closely. Is everyone already aware of the December dates in Germany and the UK? If so, just ignore this post. Its late in Vegas.

ETA Anyone see the Austin show? (referring to the taping of Austin City Limits on 9-30)

Review of TCV at Austin City Limits Festival from Rolling Stone (excerpt from overall review):

But the afternoon belonged to Them Crooked Vultures, who took the stage as the sun was beginning to set in early evening. For anyone who hasn’t seen one of their handful of live shows, they’re still essentially the stuff of legend: Dave Grohl on drums, Josh Homme on guitar and vocals and John Paul Jones on bass. What’s most surprising about the live experience is just how nasty the songs are. Far from boilerplate modern rock, the music instead coils and snaps like a rattlesnake, a mile-high stack of filthy riffs powered by Grohl’s whipcrack percussion.

“We’d like to play Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ right now,” Homme announced early in the set, “but we’re not going to.” Instead, they played “Mind Eraser,” a hard-charging thunderclap of a song constructed from a squall of guitar. “Scumbag Blues” opened with a whine and then plummeted suddenly into a fit of grinding riffs, Homme adopting an eerie, unsettling falsetto.

The Vultures’ set didn’t end so much as unravel, petering out in a weird, wonky and slightly aimless jazz odyssey that found Jones working a single walking bassline while Homme noodled over top. That kind of heady jamming is clearly not their strong suit, but it conveys the group’s single guiding ethos: In this operation, we do what we want.
There is no bigger gong.

Hey, just thought I'd mention, if anyone was considering going to the Monday October 12th show at the Electric Factory in Philly, StubHub has tickets right now for as low as $14.00.

HELL, even with the FedEx delivery charges that's less than face value of $47.50 (before LiveNation fees)!!!

I just ordered a ticket for myself, though I'm waiting on confirmation. At least I know with Stubhub if it's a scam I'll get my money back but for about $35 all told I'm in if it's legit!

Prices still dropping and my ticket order was confirmed...now down to $13 each.

Shows that there were a LOT of assholes who grabbed up all the tickets thinking they'd scalp them at huge prices - but that didn't work out too well for them, did it?

Holy guacamole! Wish I'd waited now, but I get too nervous if I don't get a ticket right away, so it wouldn't have been worth the stress. But good going sock!

GREAT DAY IN THE MORNIN'. THEY WERE MINDBOGGLING.

Should I start a spoiler thread....? Hmmmm.....

The downside: Pretty good venue, small, good sight lines...but the sound is usually terrible. It was so muddy tonight I couldn't make out anything Homme was saying, and we were more or less right next to the stage. I could see, for the most part, but the guy in front of me was doing the block and weave so I could usually only see one of the players at a time.

Upside: The songs. Were fantastic. I dunno what I expected, but I really, really dug 'em. Wish I could have made out what any of the titles were ;) but I'm sure I can get my hands on a bootleg later. I have listened to a couple boots, but don't have 'em memorized.

The sound reminded me of Fugazi shaken up in a bag with Mission of Burma; trust me when I tell you the praise doesn't get much higher in my world.

SO good to see Dave back on the kit. Man. Talk about your raw power. He's no Stewart, but still....DAMN. I half-expected to see a black smoking crater onstage where his kit had been.

JPJ has some really cool toys, including what appeared to be a 12-string bass. Mr. Dive commented 'it looked like something Sauron would play.' ;) Ya know, there's a reason that guy was the rhythm section for one of the best rock bands of our time. Yow, he's good. This was our third time seeing him, but both the previous gigs were on mando - is there anything the man can't play?

The fun part: I have an old Foo Fighters shirt from their first tour, before the debut record came out [saw 'em at the Black Cat in D.C. in April or so, 1995, thanks mostly to my old roommate, who kept telling me how great Grohl had been in legendary D.C. band Scream - bug Meg for more details]. I had it on, Dave saw it, and I got a couple of BIG OLE GRINS. No points - I guess that's not his style - but it felt like a cool little mutual admiration society for a couple minutes there. ;)

Nice work Dive, thanks for the update.

I cannot WAIT. Did I mention I'm now going to the Boston show too?

If they weren't all sold out, I'd seriously consider buying plane tickets.

Wow. Still a little boggled this morning. What on earth just hit our town...?

Can't wait to hear Meg's take. She's next on the tour schedule.

Plane tickets or concert tickets?

Stubhub is loaded with cheap TCV tickets for Philly, and DC and Boston ticket prices are dropping too. The brokers way overbought for resale....

!!!!!! WHOA! That's really shocking....

Here's the shitter, tho: ironically, a dear friend of mine from D.C. is visiting next week. [It's not the shitter she's visiting, just that it's that week.] Wish I'd thought fast and gone for Columbus, but I thought I'd have AC/DC tonight - which has now been postponed.
