THE best ever drum part in a hiphop song

THE best ever drum part in a hiphop song

Postby Tamadude on 25 Sep 2009 19:59

This track takes me waaayy back. Back when hip-hop had true soul. Just rhymes and a beat. But what really captured me about this track is that it has REAL DRUMS in it; nothing else except voices. I listened to this groundbreaking album (Raising Hell by Run DMC) a lot, but because of the real drums, "Perfection" ended up being my favorite track on the record. I played this beat on my lap for many years before I got a drum kit. I just listened to it for the first time in years and it gave me goosebumps, so I'm learning it now for real. I'd love to hear your feedback on this. Is it just me? Even if you hate rap/hip-hop you gotta admit that it's a sick drum part.

BTW, I don't like hip-hop anymore. Haven't for a long time. Still don't mind old school once in a while. When they used humor and rapped about normal life stuff. Now it's all about bitches, bling, big screens, and Bentleys. The new stuff is shite.
I don't wanna work, I just wanna bang on the drums all day.

Well technology has sure taken the Bite out of a lot of music including Hip Hop. I feel you with the real drums especially from a hip hop group ground breaking sort of speak. it almost sounds like the drummer is in your living room. Hip Hop is dead and Nas said so. But the run between 83' to 93' was incredible. KRS One, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, N W mother fucking A, Ice T, Wu Tang Clan, Cypress Hill just to name a few but outside of that Hip Hop is dead and Nas said so.

P.s The ROOTS still kick it with live instruments

Has anyone seen the discourse on the "Amen drum break" groove that's been sampled more times than the "Funky Drummer?"

If not, here it is:

Awesome.

I still Love the real stuff.

I put on Public Enemy to remind myself that Hip Hop was once an expressive new vibe. (Burn Hollywood Burn).

Now it's Escalades, I'm so great, bikini's (that's OK), and banal lyrics.

<Suck on Run DMC Kanye !>

Thanks, great stuff.
