THE POLICE and me at MACHU PICCHU (Trip Diary)

Postby Jose on 05 Sep 2009 20:37

As am I a POLICE superfan I ever liked to meet them, sometimes I have dreams on where Andy, Stewart & Sting signed my CD's or any memorabilia into a backstage or simply meeting in anywhere... The first time I readed "Police File" or watching "Police Around the world" with all those images of my favourite band travelling around the globe, I said myself... Why not Peru? Anytime I dreamed or thinking a great photo shot of my band with the best peruvian postcard image "Machu Picchu" -Lost City of the Inca's- at back of them... I visited this amazing and mystic place for around three times... So the last time I did it I decided to put "THE POLICE" on that fantastic stamp... The Police reunion Tour 2007-2008 happened and was the best chance for making my dreams real... I crossed my fingers, they were really close to Peru and everybody in my country loves them and have a great and giantastic media coverture in the past days and nowadays...gossips came that "THE POLICE" will be making a concert in December 2007, but never happened... and a visit to Machu Picchu was a certain detail that will be scheduled yes or yes ... January 2009 and a fantastic new opened my eyes one morning.. Andy Summers our lovely guitarists visited Peru for planing a Trip to the Incas Route that included Machu Picchu......this time was the time I thought... it was the result when one evening of december 5th 2007 I had a backstage with Stewart Copeland and I gave him for Andy and Sting one valuable magazine in english which I came to Chile... a Deluxe Tour Programm of PERU with plenty of amazing photographs... I think Andy saw that... So I was very thankfull knowing one of my Police buddies fianlly landed there and took an unbelievable photo with the Incas magic city... a couple of days ago I had my third chance to visited Machu Picchu again and I put THE POLICE in my breast for making the photo I ever wanted...this is the result of my trip:

As I mentioned before into another thread, I was commitioned to make a trip to Cuzco - Peru for be part of a crew that filmed a documentary about an Inca's arquological center called "Tipon". What a wonderfull place and a great experience.

Then, I also booked a trip to Machu Picchu (my third time there) and really enjoyed it for making lot of pics that having that amazing and famous portrait landscape in my back and me wearing "THE POLICE" official T-Shirt of the last Tourzilla.

First of all, we were stayed at an hostel I hardly recommended, if your bucks are not so big enough. This hostel is runing by nouns of "Dominican" congregation so all is clean and well furniture. "Dominga" is the recepcionist and also who is in charge of making the breakfast and help us a lot in any ocassion we needed. I paid around U$ 10 for a great single dorm with shared super clean modern bathroom. ( That's the only option I obtained into a top high season in Cuzco).

The first day we were traveled to "Tipon" (South Valley of Cuzco) that is an archeological center located into a big mountain surrounded with a beauty andean valley and typical towns like "Oropesa" famous for having the great organic bread I ever taste in my life. Our filming team were around 08 people, the cameraman and director called Juan Durand, the sound engineer called Edgard Lostanau, Mr. and Mrs. Wright - an american couple who were authours of a scientific book called "Tipon"- who had the main role into the movie, Fernando Caller a scientific and historian, Karina Frías who was charged of the equipment, me like a director assistant and crew and translator and Roger, a native "Cuzco" van driver.

From 8 am to 4.30 we were filmed any corner of "Tipon" mixing with some interviews into the main places with the Wright's.

The place is amazing, because is like the Inca's cut the mountain in perfect 13 enourmous terrazes surround by stone canals, fountains, waterfalls, and drain outlets that produced different sounds of the water were dominated and discursed by the canals, fountains and falls. Mr wright told me that the water origing born from the undeground at the middle of a great mountain that dominated the place and at the top is crowned by an ancient construction or adoraty from the neolitic era with enigmatic draws. at this point I see a big canal that transport the water from it born, by this long canal is sculpted or builded over an stone bridge and at the middle of this bridge exist a trapezoidal open door from one side enter the light sun and the other you could see the fabolous image of the South Valley.

Next to this place, were an Inca construction with two stone chairs that were in front of a sun observatory or adoratory, at the foot of this chairs is situated 04 squared slab stones who were digged simulated tiny canals for each one of the stone chairs, situated like you were seated with the legs opens... all these stone furniture was over a firm and landed square surrounded by walls simulating a swimming pool and have a drain outlet that connected with diferent canals with corners and directions that continue be down from the mountain to the terrazes and valley.

Also exist fountains, one I was very impressed is a one with two royal stone chairs, one in front of the other, like two priests or digniterious were seated for being concentrated to meditated with the sun and the sound of water were produced by this marevelous fountain... Why not they were concentrated two interchange telephatic thoughts, who knows...

Another interesting place was the main fountain or "Spring Fountain" that is a water miror that continue be open by a canal who is divided in around four canals that ends into a perfect flat monolit with Incas characteristic walls wet by a water veil that discurred into a perfect stone sink.

One big adventure anecdote occured at the end of the day, when two people of our team dissapeared in the mountains and they not return until 9.30pm with the help of the guardian of the arquelogical center who guided them with a light into a dark night lightned by the stars constellations and plenty moon. Before that american proffesors suggeted us to call "The Police", and for reaching the next Police station was driving down the mountain for around a half hour and continue driving to the next town called "Oropesa". When the van was in it way to Orpesa I waited in "Tipon" with another guardian and hopefully into an specific place I succeded a comunication of my cell phone to the number of one of our collegues who were lost in the mountain in the middle of the dark, cold wind and lonely unknown... hopefully they were in good condition by one of them havent one of his tenniss shoes, it shoelace was removed.

Having me in that ancient, enigmatic and wonderfull place where the concept of Inca's was that the water has the male function of fertilize the female role of ground to produce the richness of the sun, water and earth bring to us is for me I am in the middle of a magical out of earth place. Into a society that really believes in the respect and harmony of nature for helping the develop of people and not to destroy or overexplote what God gives to us. 8)

Last day of the trip we booked a touristic visit to "Machu Picchu", it was my third time there, but was fantastic it is seeing those hided Inca's citadelle in the middle of a rainforest with a concept of how to take care the environment with construction made by a civilization. I admired any corner and my eyes wants to scaned any path, any way, any green, any stone and any face of tourists and peruvians who admired like me the magnificence of what is considered a Seventh World Wonder... I was totally inspired when some american tourist request me about the way to reach an incas window at the top of the Incas Trail with an outstanding vista of the Lost City of The Incas, I approach her to described how I saw at "Tipon" and the vision of what Incas had about the water, sun, earth and cosmos... when I turn my head also another tourists took notes what I said and enquired me with more questions, at that point I felt to approach the ocassion for sending the meaning of living in harmony with nature of what Inca's tried to left us by it legacy.

and some tourists, british specially, recognize "The Police" into my T-Shirt, then I explained Andy summers was there some months ago and them requested me a lot about the Inca's Empire and specially when I mentioned about "Tipon", I was surrounded by lot of tourists in the middle of the Inca's Trail, like a guide or "Indiana Jones" They didn't believe I am peruvian, but I convinced them that inside my blood also probably were Inca's gens, the best of all that shows us the exact way of sustainabilty and ecological and organic vision for living in harmony with nature, in spite of the fact is so hard to left such electronic tools like my cell phone that was wrapped around my waist 8)
