OT: More news.... Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

Postby animal on 29 Aug 2009 02:03

from Rockradio.com

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher says he's leaving the British band because he can't work "a day longer" with his brother Liam.

A statement from Gallagher on the band's web site says he's leaving the group "with some sadness and great relief."

The band were due to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on Friday but didn't take the stage. Instead fans at the concert were told by the support band that Oasis would not be performing. Many of the crowd thought it was a joke - until screens at either side of the stage showed the message "as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled".

Gallagher's statement sends "apologies to all the people who bought tickets" for the band's remaining shows in France, Italy, and Germany.

Oasis was one of the biggest britpop bands of the 1990s, with hits like "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger". Both songs appear on (What's the Story) Morning Glory, the third biggest-selling album in UK chart history (with 4.4 million copies sold), behind Queen's Greatest Hits and The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band respectively. The album has sold 4.6 million copies in the United States

...and them had a sold out concert in Lima, some months ago and they looked so satisfied with the warm reaction of peruvian fans

Really a great band
But terrible bandmates...

This has been coming for awhile, but money talks.

We'll see if they can pull off a true break-up like The Police managed.

By for now Oasis...

I sort of understand why they are so popular - they do a great job at the big arena/stadium singalong thing, which also works in your local pub. And in the era of Britpop they were in the corner of the common person rather than the art-school posse. Seems somewhat dumb that two men who've grown up together can't figure out how to work together though.

I agree with Meg. I think they'll be back together eventually. It's really a symbiotic relationship.

I'm started to get interested in the latest New Order spin-off Bad Liuetenant which is basically New Order without Peter Hook but with guests like Blur's Alex James. They released their first single "Sink or Swim" on their website the other day (http://www.badlieutenant.net) and if it's any indication of their upcoming album, it's going to kick butt!

i'll shed no tears for the demise of oasis (if that's what this is)....

enjoyed them in 1994/5, the first album was good, but their output rapidly declined, IMHO, some dreadful, dreadful, predictable tunes and ridulous posturing about "better than the beatles......

i will, however, continue to sing "Octopus' Garden" over "Wonderwall."

Too bad!
Anyway, I was on my way to go until the tv told the news...we knew the show was cancelled the day before.
We got Deep Purple instead of Oasis...but as I didn't buy the ticket yet, I gave up as I had another invitation somewhere else, a birthday party.

They'll get back together again anyway, it will be like THE BROTHERS HAVE REUNITED FOR A BRAND NEW ALBUM AND TOUR...BLAH BLAH BLAH.....or at least I hope!

They already split about 10 times, right?
