Anyone but Chris Cornell should do the next Bond theme. Haha.

Wasn't Sting asked to appear in a Bond movie a long time ago? (I think it was just around the time Pierce Brosnan took over)

I think it would be very cool for the Police to do something like this. Sting's slightly jazzy overtones, mixed with Stewart's percussive approach and Andy's extended modal chords could make the basis for an excellent Bond Theme. A little orchestral string support and a few brass stabs added in for classic Bond appeal, and it would be great!

The only other Bond Themes by Pop/Rock bands that I liked were Aha's "Living Daylights", and to a lesser degree Duran Duran's "View to a Kill".

I didn't like Tina Turner one that U2 wrote for her. The one that the girl from "Garbage" did was OK, but boring. And the Casino one (as mentioned) was unforgivable....

I would worry also about the overexposure thing, but it would be cool.

Overexposure? Commercialised?

Ummmm when were the Police anything other than a commercial pop/rock enterprise? They were huge! They filled Shea Stadium! You're concerned with them becoming 'commercialised'?? Their music has been featured in everything from 'Another 48 hrs' to 'Friends'... not to mention covered by Puff Daddy.

'EBYT' chalked up something like 5 continous years of airplay. They continue to sell millions of records. The Madison Square Garden gig sold out in less than 10 minutes. I don't think this band CAN be overexposed anymore.

Lol...

The only movie with the 'right' atmosphere for a Police soundtrack it would be a sequel of Blade Runner.

Nah, best to do it for a movie I want to see.

I hope there will never be any sequel of Blade Runner. I'd be entirely satisfied with a good DVD edition of the existing movie.

For the potential Sting's role in James Bond (finally given to Graces Jones... can't recall the movie title), I remember something that he couldn't do it because he had to tour with The Police and was quite frustrated.

Not really off-topic: I've heard at that time The Police were to do the Lynch's Dune sountrack but were finally replaced by Toto. Is this true? And if yes, what's happened?

That was way back in Roger Moore's day. Sting would have been the villain. Christopher Walken got the part, with bleached hair no less. Oh yeah, it was A View To A Kill. Speaking of bad Bond themes, this was not exactly Duran Duran's finest moment.

Ridley Scott made a complete directors cut several years ago, ie with around 30-60mins additional footage - and it's been the subject of legal battles ever since. It's ready to go - but it's stuck in legal limbo :(

There's a full Ridley Scott interview out there in which he confirms he made this proper directors cut.... try google....

A Bond theme could be cool...and how about our guys for next year's Superbowl halftime? Considering the tour's supposed to carry through to the beginning of '08, could be an awesome way for things to finish up...

(Hmmm...already dreaming dreams of my Eagles in the Superbowl, with the Police @ halftime...yeah!)
