Happy LaJolla SummerFest my friends

Well, I can read the brigade of Stew-heads is marching to San Diego, well done bros and sistas!
I'm looking forward to see pics and read reports as soon as possible.
Both Stewart interviews on mp3 at the KPBS and the link of the interview on SingonSanDiego.com were brilliant, and makes me wanna be there!
Sorry I couldn't have news about Stewart appearances to inform you on time, but you know how it works in these cases; there are more important issues to fix from the ones involved in planning such events and it's not easy to let everybody know about it. Anyway, I could read some of you could make it anyway.
Waiting for your reports and pics...happy LaJolla SummerFest!

Thanks Gio!

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm having a ball out here. Enjoying seeing lots of friends, the town is gorgeous, and it is just fantastically relaxing to be on vacation.

A few of us were able to catch the panel discussion yesterday at midday. It was really different, and considerably more muso wonky than I expected, which made it very interesting for me. One of those experiences during which I realized how much I have to learn about music, or at least how narrow my focus has been. Toward the end of the conversation Stewart began to have a little fun "pushing the buttons" of one of the other composers on the subject of world music -- specifically whether and how it influences american music, and if it did, whether it was authentic or genuine to allow the influence. For a moment I had the feeling of being transported to one of those fantastic dinner parties during which the really stimulating arguments errupt as the collective guard is dropped during the dessert course. I sensed Stewart was having a lot of fun with this fellow and, I project, fully realized how he was delighting the little old ladies that comprised the greater part of the audience. Not to mention how he was delighting all of us nutters.

(And, props to you Stewart, for constraining your use of cusswords -- I only heard one or two at the end and no F-bombs -- and I'm sure the nice ladies in the audience appreciated it. I was laughing a little to myself, at the contrast between this panel discussion and some of the interviews you gave during Tourzilla.)

Unfortunately, just when the conversation was beginning to get heated, the moderater reminded us all of the time by quickly and rather abruptly bringing the event to a close. Stewart was able to hang out for a few minutes to say hello. A few moments later we glimpsed him dashing down the street, weaving in and out of other pedestrian traffic on his way back to rehearsal.

Geez, Gio!! Don't feel like anyone's annoyed with you about the event mixups here in La Jolla. You're on another continent! Not like it's easy for you to keep up with these things.

I've found out generally too late to attend any of the SC events so far (all of which seem to have been cancelled by the Music Fest itself, not Stewart, but we're only finding that out when he actually does show up when the promoters have said he won't. Bummer, I'd have enjoyed the composer discussion in particular, but since when is super-good event promotion one of Stewart's hallmarks? ;) Guess I'm just saying we love him (and you) anyway and we're all going to get to see the main event, which is the performance tonight.

Greatly looking forward to it, but have already had a great time seeing friends and another great power trio at the Aztec Dome last night (Green Day, which thanks to Nancy and I now has a few more converts. ;))

Wish you all were here, sincerely. I'll probably take the big camera on the off chance I can get it in, and I can go put it back in the car if not. Updates as the event wears on - kisses & hugs, the La Jolla Attendees ;)

Wish you were here too, Gio! One of these days we will be on the same continent together, and what a pleasure THAT will be. Until then, you are with us in spirit, along with others who could not be here physically to share the California sunshine!

Ciao!
