OT: Director John Hughes has died.

OT: Director John Hughes has died.

Postby nancyrose on 06 Aug 2009 21:43

So sad to share this news. The New York Times just reported that John Hughes, director of "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" died this morning while taking a morning walk in Manhattan. He was 59.

Just sad on so many levels. I loved his work, and he was waaaaay too young to die.

The Breakfast Club won't be quite the same again :-(

That was a good montage! I really liked his movies. He died way too young.

Of course there is She's Having a Baby which was scored by the Maestro which has a direct connection to the new piece "Retail Therapy" premiering at La Jolla.

I hadn't realzied that he directed so how many movies I really, relayy liked. What a source of great entertainment.

I have never seen the one (to my knowledge) John Hughes fim that Stewart soundtracked, She's having a Baby. I enjoy the sole song from it that is on From Rumble Fish to Gridlock'd and can't wait for the La Jolla premiere of the song intended for the movie.

ETA: I didn't mentioned that this is horribly sad.

Very strange for me. I was just slightly too young to be able to truly identify with a lot of Hughes' characters but old enough to understand and recognize their issues -- as well as the towns and environments from which a lot of his characters came. I got more mileage out of his films a few years later on video than when they were released in theaters.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Some Kind of Wonderful. I never knew if I wanted Watts or wanted to be Watts. Now I can recognize that I wanted both.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Ok, enough is enough!

First, Farrah, then Michael

Then, the eye doc tells me I need BIFOCALS?! AT 44?!

My goatee is at least 50% grey.

Now this?

Too much.

Only saw "She's Having a Baby" & "St. Elmo's Fire" when they first came out (my university years, and always too busy!), really enjoyed those both.....and since am a huge Simple Minds/Jim Kerr fan, appreciated the bump those fellows got from "Breakfast Club" ( a favorite at the time of my best friend). I hope for Jon Hughes sake it was a quick passing, but can't also help feeling for his family/friends, had to be a shock.
