Let's NOT Buy Leroy a Draft!

Let's NOT Buy Leroy a Draft!

Postby luddite lady on 12 Jul 2009 16:08

Due to recent developments, we are no longer able to buy Leroy a draft. It seems the bar closed early. Therefore, I'm EDITING this post, but keeping most of it intact so the posts that follow make a degree of sense.

Some of you may have been following the developments of our lame-brained scheme in the SC advanced copy thread. If not, here it is...
A number of us are a little annoyed that somebody, who has procured an unproofed galley of Stewart's book in confidence, is now selling it on eBay in advance of the official release. Refer to the other thread if you want to bathe yourself in our moral indignation.
In retaliation, a collective of us have decided to bid on the galley. If we win the bidding, we intend to hide the thing away until after the book's October release date. At that time, we will unleash it for sale once more on eBay with all proceeds going to the Leroy Coolbreeze Fund at MIF. In the meantime, we are hoping to add a bit to the galley's value by having it signed by its author, some guy named Stewart Copeland.
If you are interested in making a financial pledge to this crazy idea, please DON'T e-mail me. I'm NO LONGER available at THE STUPIDEST E-MAIL ADDRESS KNOWN TO MAN.
I'd ask that you don't make any comments on-line about the amount pledged. We sometimes forget that our little playground here is open to the prying eyes of the world, particularly somebody looking to outbid us. Secret, nafarious plans are best left unbroadcasted. Besides, one of us might let it slip about our other secret, nafarious plan to take over the world and paint it green. Ooops, did I say that aloud? <---D'oh I guess I really should have edited this part!
Bidding ENDED BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO GET TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH THIS SCHEME. MY FAMILY THANKS YOU. After that, win or loose, I will NOT post the list of all the people who were willing to contribute to this idea. DOING SO WOULD ONLY make it easier for the authorities to round us up and deposit us in the lunatic asylum closest to our respective homes.
Thanks y'all!

If anyone is planning to contribute and hasn't done so yet, please let me know in the next day as we require a little advance time to arrange for money to be sent to the designated bidder. Thanks again.

Ah well. I hope it has gone to a good home. And a quiet home - pre October.

(Currently experiencing that 'little rush of outrage' brought on by the premature absence of the thing I've been bitching about. May have to leave rude notes on badly parked neighbors' cars to let off steam. )

ETA: Apostrophe added to clarify that the cars are badly parked, not the neighbors.

Hmmm....interesting.

Wonder if it did go to a new home or if it was removed for other reasons?

Well, that just knocked the winds out of the sails of my galley! Yet another reason I don't normally "do" eBay.

The objective of the hare-brained scheme may have been removed, but thank you LL for getting us all organised. You're awesome!
