My take:

The lyrics suck. I think I see what Sting intended, but I don't think he was very successful (hence the common misunderstanding as to their meaning).

Sting's bass: Frankly, one of my favorite Sting bass lines evah. Simple, straight forward, but direct and really drives the song. In fact, the thing that makes me just HATE the song live is that Sting never plays the stream of quarter notes. To me, that just destroys the rhythm and flow of the song.

Andy's guitar: love it. I feel like Andy was given little to work with and then just hit it out of the park.

Stewart: I am probably in the minority, but I like what Hugh did to Stewart's snare sound on this song. However, it is painfully obvious that this is not how Stewart would have wanted his part to sound like (esp re: the hi hat).

At first I talked about HERE in Argentina,not this forum.
And second, "Forget the lyrics" means that they (Argentinian women I know) don´t like this song by its lyrics because many of them don´t understand English at first sight.
I ask then,will be the melody?

I wouldn't really say I hate EBYT, but it's not my biggest favourite either. I really like the music of the song, but the lyrics aren't that great especially when you think about what they really mean. I also don't think it's their best work ever, although it was the most successful song they did.
Nevertheless, I still enjoy listening to the song sometimes ( without thinking about the stalking part though lol)

It's definitely one of my least favorite Police songs as well. <shrug> I don't get it.
Also definitely the most annoying because it's sooooo overplayed.

If there was one song that I wished they'd cut from the tour, it was EBYT.

Oddly enough, it's also the one song that made me cry early on in the tour. Nothing to do with the song... I think I just got emotional because I was finally seeing them live!

with you EQ on the snare sound, the very first one is an enjoyable sound to make with your mouth, erm, which i do quite often. not too loud or in company, just sometimes....

one of the few tunes where i preferred the solo sting versions with doo-wop girls and boys on the outro "sha-dooo-dup"

I love Every breath you take!! I love it since I first discovered The Police and I didn´t speak english very well at that moment (well, I am still not very good, hehe), so maybe at first it was all about the music...And now love the lyrics and the music...I always think of EBYT as a romantic song, I prefer to think of "I´ll be watching you" as something sweet and romantic, despite I know is kind of stalker!!! And by the way...in the final show at the Madison Square Garden, in a moment of that song, I show Sting my sign of "Uruguay here" and he made and expression with his face to me!! So, another reason to love that song!
