golly, gee, gosh! i have been gone longer than i thunkded - sc.net got a makeover!
a while back - a LONG while back - i mentioned a book called "Musicophilia" by Dr. Oliver Sacks. saw a Nova presentation based on it called, "My Musical Brain". REALLY interesting - many of the anecdotes and patients dr. Sacks mentioned in his book. one i don't recall from the book that was featured on the show was about a young NY man named matt giardano. he has SEVERE tourette's - i have NEVER seen tourette's of that severity. he discovered at a young age that he had a gift for drumming and - better yet - that when he was drumming, he could control his massive motor tics. if you get a chance to see this show (i think NOVA is shown on all the PBS channels, no?), or find a link about him, make sure you see it - anyone with an interest in drumming will be impressed AND fascinated. he even teaches/leads a drumming workshop, populated mostly by similarly afflicted individuals. the show includes just a few moments of one of those workshops, but it is astounding! in fact, if it doesn't give you goosebumps and make you choke up a little, i will be surprised. hope someone follows up, maybe finds a link to share. let me know if you see it and what you think, K?
