"Come gira, salta e balla
Come gira la Ninella mia..."
Yes, my opening line, my first words to describe the Taranta adventure in portuguese lands last night, in Loulé, Algarve.
As usual I have always to spent hours in trains, plains, bus, etc, to be near the musicians/bands I love. Like each one of us here. nothing new
Yesterday I left Porto by 8h50, my kids stayed with a friend so I was ready to run from north to south in 7 hours. with one hour pause in Lisbon for a fresh air and explanations to english tourists that this is not London and you don't have to validate your tick in machines before boarding....
Feeling happy with my thoughts, my newspaper and Martin Amis book suddenly a middle age lady seated near me with a horrible chewing gum on my right ear. worse than teenagers or popcorns in saturday film session.Honestly, I don't know how I survived that disgusting situation, after that, and not so happy with the gum, she started to crunch butter cookies like she was a rat...Off from my place for a coffee and when I returned Ray laMontagne help me with his rough voice to forget that she was still there.
I arrive in Loulé at tea time, and I'm thinking that this situation is like Madrid, no, no Sahara, but the station is about 5 miles from the city centre, a cab or yellow bus. I can't think twice: cab please! I was a bit ansious to arrive cause I didn't have the daily tick and I'm like a hunter I need to recognise the field before the hunting.
Since the first moment that I had this feeling, maybe this time I get my chance with the drummer. You're right English -Lion, "Never say Never" Well, you bet dear!
I walked in the old closed streets and, suddenly, like a familiar sound coming from the end of a street I heard what we all know : that's Stewart. Run, run and there he was with tarantellos, the gold bowl at the end of the rainbow!
I know i was a bit silly, I started waving my Stewpid girl shirt like i was at the top of Himalaia or Kathmandu but honey I couldn't help myself and like the first line "gira, salta e balla"
Another fan was there also waving a big card " Stewart give me your sticks". yeaph! i recognise that card from Lisbon in 2007, he was on my right side in the audience. Amazing! Someone to share my craziness! He plays drumms and our Maestro is a god to him. Hope he can join us here very soon, he's name Joao Amoretty.
By now I had already the chance to say Stewart, please just 2 minutes with you, ok?!
Pic is already in a frame
Colourful, Powerful, Amazing, Fantastic, la Notte put me a bit Taranta (dizzy).
The audience was there for him, with young people like João talking about his musical past, ansious to see the legendary musician doing magic with a pair of sticks and a small Tama chariot. One fellow by my side was completely freezed, staring Stewart all the time. Nothing or anyone in the band catched his attention. So can you imagine the importance of a night like this for many of his admirers? a night to be sanctified!
Thanks Mr. Copeland for your smile, your quick quick time. Thanks for your dreams that moves people and touch us like the first time. Yes, everything You do is Magic and I just hope you keep doing it cause I/ WE will be around waving my/our smiles to you!
"Come gira, salta e balla
