Stings new album?

Stings new album?

Postby HalcyonLisa on 17 Jun 2009 14:47

Who else is really looking forward to Stings new album?

I've been known as a bit of an old-english folkie at heart, I do love all kinds and types of music, but a glance at my CD collection will show some Kate Rusby, Seth Lakeman, Kathryn Tickell, Fairport Convention, Jim Moray and a few other folky dudes ;) I have also been known to love Cropredy festival :)

I think that I will hopefully find Stings new CD very interesting in this way, as long as its not too precise and serious, hopefully it will still have great heart amongst the tradition :)

I SO excited for this album. It will be titled "If Upon a Winters Night" and has a dark winter theme and is "not a pop album".

Unless it's more lute...

Let's let the Police.com treat the subject.

 Smax. Ohhhh Smax. What a good laugh that was.

I had no idea of the nature of the album either and I love Sting. I'm getting old, I guess and can't keep up with the latest news.

I'm sure I will love it!
I know Sting can do a great job with this kind of releases; I guess it will be the perfect Christmas album for so many (fans and not fans); we should expect a new 'small club/theaters/churches' tour (one stop in Newcastle is already scheduled).
By the way, I was ready to book my flight to Newcastle for December 19th, but I then discovered they moved the concert to the 17th, and I really can't make it.
I will find another way to see him performing these tracks live...I know I will surely love them...I think I know what to expect from him on these releases.

I've read the article in the link Skip provided. (Thanks.) Based on its description, I'm seeing this CD as being a real big hit with the druid demographic. And I'm envisioning Sting touring in the Robin Hood outfit.

Seriously, I'm sure it will be a collection of masterful music that offers something very different from the mainstream. Many will enjoy it. For me though, it's just not my cup of herbal tea. Plus, taking a musical journey that explores the theme of winter is not something I want to do in any season. Leave that for the people whose snow comes in spray cans.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Uh, I just got the e-mail about it. Sounds like he's totally out of fresh ideas and is taking the easy way out. It's traditional English folk music, including Gabriel's Message (again) and Hounds of Winter (again). It features our old friend Dominic Miller (a real stand up guy and the next best guitartist to Andy) Kathryn Trickell (dunno if I got the spelling right - on the Northumbrain pipes - remember her from the Soul Cages? That sounds interesting) and it includes Stewart's friend Daniel Hope on violin. I doubt it will sell like hot cakes but it should be interesting.

I don't know what I feel...part of me is torn...In one way, I am glad he is still experimenting with things we don't suspect.
And on the other hand, I think he's got "balls of steel" to do this after a Police Reunion Tour?

This new release could really knock him down a peg if it is not received well. Because we all know that Sting loves to be adorned by the public.

I hated SFTL....his best move would be to record another Police project. Because after the reunion..we all saw it with our own eyes..."Sting as a solo artist does not even compare to the chemistry or magic of The Police".

"Balls of Steel would be this....let's make a new project and make it better than all of our albums combined. I think he is scared to try because after all, that is a tall order.

Could we see another Beatles emerge..after all they did it..time and time again...and I think The Police could do likewise.

STING PLEASE COME TOP YOUR SENSES!!!
