Nooo, too bad! I like him and he's a great artist...I hope this is another fake rumour about him...but if it's true, I'm very sad for it!

What I'm reading is that his staff called the paramedics, but he had no pulse when they arrived. They tried to revive him at the hospital, but there was no response. As far as I know, it's real and he's gone.

Guess I'd better edit this. Now it says that he's in a coma at the hospital. Either some news reports are jumping the gun or others are being cautious.

CNN website says he's dead. I can't believe it!
Say what you will about the man - Lord knows I've made enough Sarcasma remarks about his wackitudinousness - but he was a musical genius. I didn't always like everything he did, but who's going to argue about Thriller being a great album??

Oh wow. Unbelievable.

Nothing like getting your news from sc.net. This is the first I've heard of this and thought it was a joke at first. It's very sad. Yes, he was a freaky dude, but I was a fan of his earlier music.

OT: Farrah Fawcett died today, too.

Yeah, I'm sure that a lot of us share the opinion that he was pretty much of a freak in his later years, but I did love his earlier albums and the Jackson 5 stuff.

It's always sad when someone dies that young. Wonder what the autopsy will turn up. Morbid, but true.

I am a fan of his. Always loved his artistry, his singing, his dancing.
Never believed what all the blackmailers dumped on him.
He was whacko, sure, but this did not diminish what a great artist he was and the fact that he was a part of our generation's history.

Wow. I'm in shock and very sad. I feel like I grew up with him, through all the stages of his strange yet immensely talented life. Who can't remember waiting at the television to catch the first glimpse of his video for Thriller? There had never been anything like it before. Oddly, I had just recently found that video online to show my son. I wanted him to know that there was more to Michael Jackson than unflattering stories he had heard from some of his peers.

Very sad news.

OMG, remember when the Thriller video was so HUGE because it was what, over five minutes and they had spent at the time I think a whopping $500,000.00 on it? At the time that was unheard of to spead on a music video.

I'm watching MTV for the first time in over 20 years... Seeing all of his videos again and being played on MTV itself is hard to describe.

Stunned, for sure....not sure what to say. He's like my generation's Elvis in some ways, I suppose.

What's odd is that I *just* read this last night in my hard-copy book, about MTV and the Michael Jackson video 'dilemma'...worth reading (should be readable online). Tom McGrath's "Integrating MTV":

I don't think there has been anything this big since John Lennon and a few years before that Elvis. I am telling my younger co-workers I remember both days.

Wow what a shock. Immensely talented and amazing artist. So very sad what a loss. Despite all the negative issues that happened.
I still remember thriller and how amazing he was. He inspired so many artists.
