OT: Elvis Costello plays Countryish tunes

Wow! What a setlist! Thanks EQ! Now I really want to go to the Toronto show. What to do? Should I abandon all hope of going to La Jolla and see this gig instead? La Jolla is actually becoming a remote possibilty. My bank balance is now out of critical condition and Gio is hinting at more concert ticket contests.
Please feel free to talk me into either option. However, I will cover my ears and give the "la, la, la, I can't hear you" response if your logic includes the fact that my eldest daughter is one year away from going to university and from sucking me financially dry. I'm so long and far down that particular river of Da Nile that I have a pyramid half built on its banks.

I just realized that La Jolla takes place a whole week before EC's Toronto gig. So, I guess I'm in for that show. (Plus, Massey Hall uses its own ticketing website. No Ticketbastard to deal with!)

Now it should be easy-peasey to talk me into La Jolla.

I have been to so many shows in the last year, do I do another one ?

I am leaning towards not goig BUT Massey Hall is the best venue, his set list looks great (Mystery Train ? cool!).

I will sit n ponder.

I saw this band twice last week. Keep in mind, Elvis is 'the other Police' to me. I'm a HUGE fan.

Once on Thursday at Wolftrap. Their third gig. The sound was atrocious. It was a mess. Elvis muscled through, and the performance was OK, but it was still a mess. He didn't do Mystery train in D.C.

Then I saw him again with my brother in N.C. on Sunday. MUCH better show, all around. The sound and performance were much improved. So I bet this Ryman show was killer. It was their next show, two days later. Setlist nearly identical.

Elvis played a cool Gretsch Tenor Guitar (only 4 strings) on The Delivery Man, and I think The Butcher's Boy.

He seems in good spirits, and has dropped like 50 lbs since the Police tour. Now, however, he has a very unfortunate moustache. There's a recording out there of the N.C. show. I have to see about getting it.

He played a solo set @ Bonnaroo on Saturday. But I haven't heard the boot yet or seen the setlist. Somebody link it if you find it, pretty please? Sucked that I had to miss it but they scheduled Elvis at the same time as Wilco and I already had good tix for the Tuesday night Elvis show.

And by the way, THANKS EQ!!!!! I'm running out the door to see The Church in Chicago for the weekend with Mr. Dive (unfortunately Lynne won't be around ) and am unflac-ing the Ryman gig for my IPod as we speak. Truly you are Mr. Reliable on this stuff.

Also: My orthopedist mentioned he'd heard Elvis DJ'ing lately on Sirius channel Spectrum and that he talked a lot about Nashvegas & making the new album. I'm trying to dig this one up too...it'd be nice if his fan club (sigh) would let folks know in advance about this kind of thing...

GAH!!! I'm gonna die!!! Truly this is the downside to Bonnaroo....at least they didn't put Elvis, Wilco & Neko all three at the same time...What a set I bet that was.

Was just digging around at EC.com looking for a link to the Spectrum show and found the following....will email to the usual L.A. suspects, and maybe even Lil' T now that she's lifted the embargo

On Monday, June 22, Elvis Costello will celebrate the release of his new album Secret, Profane & Sugarcane (Hear Music) by performing in-store shows at Amoeba's SF and Hollywood locations. Costello will kick off his one day “Amoeba Music Tour” at Noon PT with a performance at Amoeba San Francisco, then flies south for a performance at 8pm PT at Amoeba Hollywood. At each stop Costello will not only perform, but also sign copies of the new CD for fans. Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Jim Lauderdale will accompany Costello for each of these acoustic sets.

I just found out that Elvis is going to be performing in San Francisco tomorrow (6-22 at noon) in-store at Amoeba Records. He will also be signing his cd (and other stuff?) Most likely it will be a mob scene, but maybe some bay area peeps would like to know about this. Here's a link to the Amoeba page:
