THE POLICE - OAKLAND 1983 PROSHOT VHS > DVD - NEW DISCOVERY

I happened to check in on the Police community message board under 'recordings' recently and found a reference to a DVD dubiously titled 'Police Oakland 1983 Pro Shot'. I say 'dubiously' because in all my years of trawling the web for Police recordings i had never once seen a reference to such a recording. Yet here it was, freely available via trade at some old school bootleg trading site, referenced as stated in a thread at the Police message boards. Naturally I followed the links and found the source of this surely genned-to-death recording. This individual very kindly offered to B+P me a copy of his dvd. I expected little, possibly even some mishmashing of the existing montreal footage.

Imagine my utter bewilderment and delight when I loaded up this disc today and discovered a complete - yes all 93 minutes - pro-shot and either master or 1-2 generation vhs-dvd transfer of the Police playing Oakland in '83. Even the sound is good. Unbelievable discovery. This one isn't even on Rogier's list - and here it was, not being hoarded, not being suckled on by the nefarious Police Elite Trading Society, but freely available from a fellow trader. Can anyone shed any light on where this came from? I now wonder if the VHS source exists somewhere accessible. It's timecoded and over 90 mins so it's likely a pre-broadcast source.

Picture is a little saturated (red). Sound is good, occasional mild distortion. Weird mix - really reveals how out of tune those backing vocalists were. Sting takes his top off towards the end, and looks like a fricking greek god.

The Oakland/Alameda stadium where this concert took place often had leaks of its in house video system. There are quite a few other videos from that stadium around the same time period up to about 1995 or so. Before Bill Graham died he would also document just about every bay area big deal that came through.

Someone else will have to explain the timecode.

Niiiiice. I had been tracking this over at TP.com and was under the understanding that this was gonna get posted over at TTD. I hope someone does that. Otherwise, hopefully, when this gets to the US, someone will shoot me a copy. This was fellow Las Vegan (though I think she eats dairy and eggs ) Irish Rose's first Police concert, so I'm sure she'd appreciate getting this disc.

I'm sure everyone will get covered, it just may take a few weeks to get them all out.

When I get mine I will offer up copies. Though I can imagine this will show up on Dime or TTD in the very near future.

I guess this means I can finally stop seeding the audience recording of this show that I've been running at TTD for the past 2+ years!

Wow. I really hope this gets distributed somehow. When I read the subject line my heart stopped.
This was the very first concert I ever attended and was one of the most important events of my life. (Dramatic, yes.)
To know it's on video out there is pretty amazing. If I were to see it again I'd probably weep!
