OT -Another Florida Nutter in NYC -- Rancid Date -- June 1-5

Just go to any major hotel chain and say you want to valet park for the day while you attend a meeting being hosted in the hotel. Lock your luggage out of site and go have fun. It'll cost you for the valet parking, but hell it's only a day rate. They might even have self parking.

That was what my cohort said this afternoon! Great minds think alike.

So, are there any size 9 shoes left? Maybe I will have to focus on purses.....

Hey, Heather! Sorry I'm only now seeing this. Not sure I can make it into the City the week you're here, but I wanted to give you some advice re: parking. Your best bet, since you want to spend some time in the Times Square area, is to dump your car in a parking garage on the East Side of town as soon as you get ito Manhattan, and then just hop in a cab (or walk) from there. The closer you get to Times Square, the more dense the traffic becomes, and it will save you a lot of time and grief if you lose the car asap. The East Side is preferable because you will want to head up the FDR Drive when you leave for Armonk.

Just as an example, I did a garage search for you and came up with this:

333 E. 46TH ST.PARK LLC
333 E. 46th Street
New York , NY 10017

(Entrance: E 46th Street (North side) | Bet. 1st & 2nd Avenues)

I don't know how long you plan to stay, so I put in a theoretical 6-hour span from 3pm - 9pm, and got an estimated cost of $25, which compared pretty well with other garages in the area. The garage is open 24 hours though, so don't worry if your times are different.

Don't know if you already have directions to Armonk, but I got those for you to, specifically from this garage location. Don't want to post them here, so I've send them via e-mail in case they'll be useful to you.

How early are you heading out from Armonk to Melville the next day? I'm about a half hour from there, and if it's not too early I could possibly meet you for breakfast/coffee on Tues. a.m.

Hope this helps.

NancyRose -- You rock! Thanks for the parking information . That will be really helpful.

I will be spending most of the day Tuesday in North Castle/Armonk. I will be heading to Melville in the late afternoon/early evening Tuesday.
I'm not sure how early my training starts, so breakfast may not be out of the question. It would be great to see you. :D

Finally in my hotel room after a long day......

After a strange drive from JFK to the parking garage (thanks NancyRose-- that suggestion was perfect), we hit Battery Park and took long distance pictures of the Statue of Liberty. Went to Ground Zero and Fire Station #10. Went to Canal street and walked through Chinatown and Little Italy. Bought a fake Gucci purse! (Alas, no shoes today Dive) Had a wonderful dinner in Little Italy. Went to Grand Central Station, St. Patrick's Cathedral (my personal favorite for the day), Rockefeller Center, Radio City, Bryant Park, and finally Times Square.

I have been in an airplane, two cabs, three subway lines, and a bicycle cab.....and I feel like I walked ten thousand miles. What a great day!

Now I am going to crash for a few hours...... thanks for the well-wishes everyone!

(Not much of a picture-taker, but maybe I'll post a few in a couple of days.)

Damn, Rancid -- that was one hell of a NY Greatest Hits of a day!

BTW, retroactive tour guide comment: note that the sky on the ceiling of Grand Central is painted backward. (The constellations are reversed.) The retro-rationalization is that the sky was painted as seen from God's-eye view, but the more likely reality is that the painter simply screwed up.
