need help finding the Don't Box Me In recording date

Postby smudge on 22 May 2009 21:13

Dietmar - maybe email Baba and see if he can work his magic at the NY public library again? Since they had back issues of UK music papers from the 70's, I'd be willing to bet they have US magazines from the 80's.

Of course you may have done that already, in which case - yes, I know bears shit in the woods :-)

if BABA reads this and wants to do that - that's fine
but I wouldn't ask anyone to do extra work

I thought people might have 1983 mags at home

it seem that Rolling Stone magazine was the wrong one, because one ebay seller was so kind to check

so now I'm looking into CIRCUS magazine (which had several pages of tourdates, not like RS) and I'm using ebay again

thanks

[quote="Dietmar"]hi

anyone there who has got US magazines (Rolling Stone, Trouser Press, Creem...) from around March / April / May 1983 with tourdates for Wall Of Voodoo ???

I need one or two of their concert dates to find the day when Don't Box Me In was actually recorded ...

I searched the internet for almost two hours now and couldn't find the dates I was looking for (Boston 1983 / somewhere in New Jersey 1983).

D'oh! I'm just now seeing this. I may be able to help, let me see what I can find.

And if Stewart wants to start that lending library and need a qualified librarian I'll be available starting in August. Just sayin'. :wink:

Dietmar et al. --

Well, the good news is that you can call off the searches for Creem, Trouser Press and Circus, because I reviewed them all this afternoon at the library. The bad news is that these magazines contained nothing useful for the quest.

Creem and Trouser Press didn't have tourdate listings. Circus did, but for Wall of Voodoo it only listed the 1983 US Festival.

One of these magazines ran a small item alleging that Sting agreed to do the prior US Festival only after it was guaranteed that Elvis Costello would not. Ho ho ho.
