Neil is starting to loosen up a bit, but it's taken him 30 years to do so. He's just a type A personality who likes everything organized. He does have some nice moments on various tracks. The beginning of "Spirit of Radio" made my jaw drop the first time I heard it. It's still my favorite Rush tune ever. I agreee that he still can't swing to save his life, while Stewart on the other hand...

Nice to see some recognition for Mark Brezezicki. A really versatile player and totally killer with Big Country, except for their last album. He overplayed way too much on that one.

However, Stewart will always be IMHO the greatest drummer to inhabit the planet. Always fresh, always unpredictable, always slamming and sensitive at the appropriate times and one of the few who can swing and rock simultaneously.

I dont agree with that Nº 17 for Stewart but I agree Neil Pert was the greatest!!.. that of course untill our "dear leader" came along!

Neil Peart, really?

I'm one of the few that find Rush to be a ridiculously overrated band. Aside from "Working Man" or "Spirit on the Radio", I could absolutely care less about the band. And Peart is less technique and more filler, personally.

I'll be honest and say Copeland shouldn't be exactly number one, but he should definitely be in the top 3. His technique is exquisite and the fills are never over satisfying. Bonham, Moon, Copeland, and this might anger some but Ringo Starr should be in the top 10 too.

Ian Paice is a killer drummer too.

Well, you know, even us Floydians generally agree that Nick isn't the greatest out there (though he is/was perfect for Floyd, and I know vespapod just gets the biggest kick out of watching how cool and lowkey Nick is behind the kit - there's a guy who never breaks into a sweat, at least not these days.)

Dave should be up there somewhere, I agree, and what about Taylor Hawkins? Now there's a guy who can sing and pummel a kit at the same time and never miss a beat. That guy's like watching Animal from the Muppets behind the kit.

Stewart definatly deserves a higher rating due to him being innovative with the drum delay/echo sound he used on the records and live. Immense sounding drums.

As long as we're drummer name dropping I'll mention Ari Hoenig, a jazz drummer out of NYC. I guess he's still an "up and coming" name but he's quite innovative and original. His chops are unreal and he reminds me of Stewart behind the kit with his passion and energy. His first 2 cd's are solo drum compositions and improvisations with no overdubs. Definately worth checking out.

What does that really mean ? I dont even think it should be posted here if Stewart is not number one. If i see another poll with Neil Peart as number one argghh lol....... I have seen Neil live and in terms of innovativeness & originality if i want to hear a rush album i dont need to see them live, its the exact same thing live as vinyl ooops CD lol.... Where is Bob Marley's Drummer Carlton Barrett talk about originality innovation and influence he practically invented a new form of drumming single handely. Reggae. oh yeah on Rushes Subdivisions album some one sounds a lot like the masterrrr, hmmm originality eh hmmm (new world man). Take a look at everyone stares live clips "so lonely" to whom ever made this poll, and you will see mr Copelando do Punk, Ska Reggae and Jazz all in one song thats pretty innovative, original and technical in my books. WE KNOW THE TRUTH HERE AT STEWARTCOPELAND.NET number 1 drummer of the top 20 Stewart Copeland. #17 ha ha ha ha ha "they were paid." and besides who can dance to Neil Peart tooo busy??
