I just got back!!!!!!! Here's how it went down.
So me and my friend Phil get there and see the Canadian Tenors, which was pretty cool and then Sheryl Crow goes on (meh) so I walk with a confident stride all over the place telling any security person who will listen "I'm friends with Jeff Lattimer, manager of the Canadian Tenors and he's expecting me to come find him backstage etc." and finally end up downstairs where all the multi-thousand dollar box seats are and doors to backstage are all over the place. I just walk down a big long hallway, take a right and walk through a door and a man quickly grabs me and kindly takes me back through the door and says "I've got Sting right here, you can't come in here". So I try every other door and just end up hanging out beside this curtain beside backstage where this VERY haughty security woman is giving me the evil eye (for about 20 minutes straight). I sit there for a while and end up talking to the head of security, who takes my demo and gives it to Jeff Latimer. Finally, after calling Mr.Lattimer's phone a few times and asking anyone and everyone if they know if they can put me in contact with him, Sting is about to go on, so I wait till everyone's in their seats and run out and grab a FANTASTIC very close-up seat, not on the floor, but right on the side, maybe 40 feet from the stage. Now my original ticket was for the higher balcony way up there, so this is no small feat.
As I'm sitting there going nuts while Stingo and the boys are running through MIAB and then Fields of Gold, my phone rings and sure enough it's Jeff Lattimer, I can barely make out what he's saying over the sound, but I think he says "meet me at the curtain", so I sprint over to the curtain and sure enough there he is. We shake hands and talk for a little while and he makes sure I've got his contact info and to "keep in touch", assures me he'll listen to the demo, and that's that, he goes and joins the tenors in the very front row. Nice dude, I googled him, who knows? It could be a (small) break.
So after that I go and join two very fine girls who are dancing and I sing along with everything and am making such a fuss in some of the songs that I swear Stingo looked right at me (I had my hands in the air and was screaming "tell 'em Sting"). It was basically a religious experience, and I had prime seats. What a night.
At the very end of the second encore (EBYT, obviously) I ran back and tried every single door to backstage that I could but security was there every time
All in all, a fantastic night. Sting put on an INCREDIBLE show, Vinnie played the hell out of his drums, and Dom and Mr.Piano (name has escaped me at the moment) were great too.
LL, don't worry about it I had a guitar lesson with my dad's friend all afternoon anyway. I head back to Victoria tomorrow morning, so I'll catch you next time I'm in Toronto!
