Vote for which album for the Police to Play Live

Ghost and Synchronicity are still considered benchmark albums for audio production!

I love the fact that each album has a distinct flavour to it. You get everything from extremely budget conscious and basic, to larger than life, and artistic minimalism.

The change that many people sense is that for Ghost and Synchronicity they weren't all playing together at the same time for basic tracks. The later albums were more "constructed" using lots of overdubbing, as opposed to the more straight ahead live feel on the earlier albums.

Sting clearly forced the approach to recording the songs differently as he was doing all the composition and arranging ahead of time. The later albums have a lot less "filler" as well.

I think both approaches work. Synchronicity is by far the strongest album song wise. Regatta is the best "band" album. Ghost rules as the best "drum sound" album. And even though the band thinks Zenyatta was a bunch of filler....that was my first Police album and I think it just has an amazing polished "pop" sound that is just so unique. Outlandos is cool, but doesn't contain enough "signature" sound for me.

As much as I love the other albums, I had to go with Ghost.

The drum sound is so awesome.

From the begining intro of Sprits to the full out rockon of Demolition, the one take master of one world, to the thunder in Darkness.

A close second is Regatta.

No waaay! Zenyatta! That's the album I spent countless nights falling asleep to, memorizing every little ghost note and hihat hit. At least for me Zenyatta is the penultimate "Stewart Copeland Drum Sound". I'd be curious as to what Stewart thinks! (hint hint).

Stewart's said in interviews his favorite is 'Regatta.' Which makes sense, since as someone else pointed out, nearly half the songs on it are his...(he's also said his favorite Police track is either 'Message' or 'Can't Stand Losing You.' This was a while ago, though...)

Well I have to agree that Zenyatta is very cool and the dry drum sound is perfect for that album....but I think even Stewart agrees that GITM and Synch took his drums to the next level.

Agreed. Though to hear the guitar lick during De Doo Doo Doo would be heaven incarnate. I would also love to hear Andy do some instrumental jamming. So Zenyatta for me.

I didn't vote since it's not an official poll, but it is an interesting question. Primus has done this bit too. I don't really expect it to happen on this tour, but i also didn't this tour to happen in the first place, so who knows?

I guess i have to shamelessly shill for a live Masoko treatment, so i pull for the first album. Every other song on it has been done live, even Sally, so it's high time!

Well, on the 'Outlandos to Synchronicities' vid, both Stewart and Andy said that 'Message' was their favorite Police tune...Stingo voted for 'Walking on the Moon'. I had read in a Bass Player magazine article years before that his hero, James Jamerson I believe, gave him a compliment on that bass line so that's probably why!
