I am hoping that they get back to me this week on the volunteer thing. I may go ahead and buy a ticket anyway just in case. If they accept me as a volunteer I have a choice to make:

Should I...
a) Volunteer and work 6 hour shifts Thurs-Sun but get some meals provided and shower access, plus camp in volunteer area (is this closer than general camping area?), and it's free!
b) Not go the volunteer route, pay $200, drive in my car, sleep in it, be on my own as far as hygene, food, etc but enjoy the camaraderie of the Stew forumers?

Other questions:
1. How crazy would it be trying to only come in on Saturday? Would I be parking an extra 5 miles away?
2. Do they check your car as you come in? Could I seriously pack it to the hilt with food and beverages? (someone told me you can bring in coolers? Maybe they meant parking area only?)
3. How far a walk is the general parking from the main stage?
4. Do you know if the volunteers get a better parking/camping area? Is it closer to the stages? I would think something would be better since they have to be available to accomplish tasks, etc.

Probably it is closer. Do you know what hours? You might get to see some shows, but you might also be wiped out after working all day.

Not crazy at all. You will park a ways away, but it'll be more like 1 mile from all the action. And there'll be crazy peoplewatching and food buying oppys along the way.

You can bring in coolers and you can bring your own food to the camping area. Just no glass bottles. You can bring small snacks, but no water bottles. You can bring in one of those Camelback backpacks, but it has to be empty.

About a mile, but that's worst case scenario. You may score a better spot up close in the day parking area. (One reason people spring for the insanely expensive VIP package is the much better proximity to your car/campsite from Centeroo, where all the action is.)

My own crew is settling at two other friends, with possibly a third. He has to wait a couple of weeks to be able to afford the ticket. I hope they haven't sold out by then, but i wouldn't bet my beard on it!

One of my friends says he will settle for hanging back and enjoying the show, but the other and i are committed to getting into a good position to see the Police play by the time they hit the stage. We figure on partying/chilling out for the day or two before, and hopefully discovering some cool new music. The Police are what it's all about for us and the ony reason we are going! I personally don't expect to eat or drink for several hours prior to thier performance. No bathroom trips either! :shock:

Since Merlefest is of a more specialized interest, feel free to email me on it D. I will help out all i can!

Good luck with the bathroom breaks. At Lollapalooza last year, I was up near the stage for the Chili Peppers and couldn't hold it in and had to go to the bathroom, leaving my spot after five hours of waiting, and I ended up way back instead of what would have been third or fourth row.

Ugh.

Bonnaroo, I assume, is probably ten times more packed than Lolla. And I don't want to imagine what people do when they need to go. Some people were peeing in bottles and throwing them around... uncapped... and being an obsessive compulsive germaphobe.. I almost had a panic attack. Haha. But I avoided it all and it ended up decent.

Hmmmm. You know, they *do* sell items for camping that might be easy to disguise under a picnic blanket...cause I'm here to tell you, getting to the portapotties and back at that point might not be that easy. (I'm hoping the VIP situation is better...I hate paying that much, but heck, people are paying $1000 for one seat to see only the Police in some venues...at least you get a 4-day festival for the money at Bonnaroo.)

Good lord... scary to think about nasty things are going to get. Originally i was more focused on the negatives, but now i wanna try and immerse myself in the whole experience. Camping, heat exhaustion, the whole bit. I had wanted to see the Police under ideal conditions, but how much better will it be to go thru HELL to do it??!

Dude, when they play those first chords of whatever song... anything and everything will all vanish anyway and it'll be just you and the three guys on stage.

Hey folks, just an update for everyone considering VIP: You can't get on that raised platform on the main stage with just a VIP pass. Apparently there's something called an "All Access VIP pass," and this is a funzie for them (I suspect it's given to the artists playing on the smaller stages...it's understandable, really.)

You do still get bleacher seating that's not down in the madding crowd. FYI!

VIP is still the only way to do it, but the sales are tomorrow. Au revoire everyone. I will not be going... it is official.
