Once again I'm late to the party, but soooo excited to read about Dietmars visit to SoCal and getting to meet THE MAN as well. So awesome!!

Thanks for sharing your visit with us Dietmar. Sorry I missed you. We were in LA the week prior to your visit. Dang...

Those pics were so cool. Stewart seems very laid back in his domain. I'm really happy fopr all of you that you got to see him, especially at the Castle of Copelandia!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! :D

While I'm rambling on, may I say that I love this shot:

They both look so laid back, just like a couple of old pals. I especially like that Stewart is holding his glasses while reading his old diary. Anybody as myopic and old as I am knows what I'm talking about. You reach a point where you have to take off the glasses to to see what you're reading and then slap 'em back on to see whom you're reading to. It's somehow nice to know that like me, Stewart seems to be kicking and screaming on his long drag towards bi-focals. Once again, my heart is warmed to see Stewart being the embodiment of kick-ass geekiness.
That was my feeling exactly, LL. I feel a real kinship with Stewart when I look at that photo!
Guilty of same.

I immediately noticed the glasses in his hand, too. My first reaction was "Heh, heh the eyes are starting to feel the years, eh?" Then it turned to, "Hey! waiiiiit a minute. That's not so funny."
I favor the peering over the top of the frames method to see the fine print. D'oh! (I'm dreading my next visit to the eye doctor - much to Sambucasuburu's amusement)
I was at the eye doctor today. His secretary, who is also his wife, was talking to me while I waited. She made it sound like bifocals were a fait accompli for me. "It's time, dear," she said as if we were talking about putting down a family pet.
The eye doctor was a lot better about it. "If you don't mind switching glasses when you read there's no need for bifocals. Just get two prescriptions filled" I can live with that compromise. Unlike his wife, the good ol' doc was happy to help me extend my stay in the land of denial .
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Great pictures. Thanks Dive.

The Griffith Observatory is one of my favorite LA spots. They did an incredible job renovating it, you know it was closed for a few years while they renovated. It had really fallen into disrepair over the years and was in bad need of a renovation.

And you know who gave I think at least a million dollars, really spearheaded the whole thing and got a lot of his friends with $$ to give, Leonard Nimoy of course!

He narrates a great film that they were showing in the theater he help build and is in his name about the whole renovation and what they did. It was pretty 8) . And the theater is designed for state of the art teleconferencing and other great stuff for astronomers.

Shit. I have grumbled about the east coast folks seeming to have all the fun - then I miss every socal thing going on because I haven't been getting online much. Oh well, my bad. Will check in more often now.
