the checks were well represented, so you'd fit right in.... and i've heard rumblings about US for them too........... did you read all the roddy posts a few months ago when it was getting a bit heated between members of the band?! well, against jerry... now that was a bit much.....

BUT not to detract from a blinding show tonight, and terry's voice was ok. he did his usual laconic stuff of leaning on the drum riser holding his left elbow with his right hand, in a nice suit with white trainers.... and it was terry's son's (felix) 21st tonight so they dedicated "message to you rudi" to him. sweet. terry had his first fag of the day while leaving the Roddy to sing Racquel (everytime i looked at roddy i saw paul simenon).
the only negatives for me were that Rico Rodriguez wasn't on trombone (he is about 80), they didn't play'international jet set', that i sweated so much and that the nutter contingent got seperated.......

ETA; it wasn't racquel, but i can't remember which choon it was....

FANTASTIC night! Loved seeing some Smax stompin' and judging by Smudge's rather sweaty appearance at the end of the show, she boinged plenty too!

Part way through, I went in search of Mr Daft (and my beer!) and decided to retreat like a pensioner to the balcony. As Smax said, the place was PACKED!!!!!! Never known the place feel so full.

Best quote of the night was when I nipped out to get some water before the encore and passed a guy who turned to his friend and said, "They haven't even played 'Wings of a Dove' yet." Made me giggle, especially as we'd been joking about Madness in the pub earlier.

Only down side - we mised GSC.

ETA: When I said that Smudge was rather sweaty, what of course I meant that she was er 'glowing'

Er...no, dafttart, you're very kind, but that wasn't 'glowing'. I was sweaty as hell and profoundly smelly. Drunks moved away from me on the bus home.

It was so good to be there with dafttart, mr dafttart, and smax. Mr DT was a gem - sourcing refreshment for the skanking multitudes (well, three of us) with Ms DT as go-between. And it was a real joy to be skanking badly in the wake of smax.

I've never, ever been in a packed crowd that sweated so much good-naturedness. It was a 90+ minute set, and it didn't let up for a second. I don't know how any band can do balls out and laconic, but that's what they did. It didn't feel like nostalgia at all. Those songs - even the ones I had completely forgotten about - are as sharp and brilliant and powerful as they were when Ghost Town was number 1 against a backdrop of a royal wedding and riots, or Gangsters first slapped me insensible in the late 70's.

They were extraordinarily good: musically, as whatever sort of 'ceremony' that might have been, and as a reminder of how fucking brilliant it is to see a band on top form with amazing songs interact/feed off with a magnificent audience.

Shit - punctuation gone to hell in a handbasket in that last paragraph. What I'm trying to say is, that is one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Oh thank you so much for the link Throb.High point of the night for me.

The place was stuffed to the gunnels. I've been to sold out gigs there before, but as someone else pointed out capacity in venues is by head-count, not by average girth, and as a crowd I think we were a bit over average :-)

Well, they already released dated for Australia, so we know it's beyond the UK at the very least.

I check the website every day to see if there are updates about US dates--and you better believe I'll post the info here asap!

Your reviews all bring me sooooo much joy! I have been hearing the most over-the-top glowing reviews on the Specials site, but we all know how zealous nutters can be <giggle>...so good to hear it's really better than it's cracked up to be!!!

Cannot freaking wait!

My Equalizer t-shirt didn't survive the washing I gave after it appeared at the Police Experience show last month :(

SamburuSunset and I saw The Fab Faux last Saturday. They're an excellent Beatles tribute band made up of some industrial strength NY musicians (like Will Lee from the Letterman show band and Jimmy Vivino from Conan). And the Warner Theatre is a great venue here in DC.

One of my co-workers was just telling me today he was at that show and that it was great. His former co-worker's brother plays in the band as well. I will definitely have to see them the next time they're around.
