Stewart to play La Jolla Summerfest Aug 21St

Postby DirtyMartini on 17 Apr 2009 00:39
They do have 3 or so venues for Sumemrfest and the show on Aug. 21 is at the Birch North Park Theatre in San Diego rather than the MCASD. http://www.la-jolla-music-society.com/i ... Itemid=352
Now that's weird. What I had seen was that they had three performances on Friday in different venues -- and the SC one was at the Sherwood Auditorium. Like I said, nothing's official til someone official says it, and I'm happy to stand corrected; that's just what I happened to see. Curious.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I hope you are right and my understanding is wrong. If Stewart has his own venue then we get him to ourselves and presumably he will play a longer set.

As you say, we will have to wait for details.

[Thanks of his dog] Details, come details. Come here now. Good details

Ack, no -- sorry, NJ. I saw what Amy saw: a shared bill with a world premieres theme of 3 composers -- one being Stewart, with a spot for a new premiere, plus Kaya (cool!), Celeste, and Gene Pool.

Separately -- either on the calendar or on a ticket page maybe -- I saw three performances going on that night, the world premieres one (of SAC + 2 others) happening at MCASD, plus two other entirely different performances elsewhere. I remember Sherwood Auditorium specifically because I looked it up, but at the time I didn't think much about it since festivals often have overlapping shows. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the pages had been taken down until I had already closed them.

Summerfest may have changed some details, I don't know. I do know that I'd like to not build any rumors or false hopes here. I personally am going on the assumption of 25-30 minutes of Copeland at this point.

Thanks. Now I understand. Plus I have had caffine now unlike when I posted my prior message.

I agree that hearing Kaya will be kool.

I will definitely be there - not too far from home. I've put this out on my FB page, and I will reiterate here that anyone who is coming from far off is welcome to stay at my place. If you can handle the chaos, I can handle the company.

Info is back up about the show!!!!!

http://www.la-jolla-music-society.com/i ... Itemid=225

It is not clear from the Stewart description is it will be a new composition plus Celeste, Kaya, and Gene Pool or if it is (incorrectly) indicating that Celeste will be premiered there. Suspect there just isn't a name yet for the new piece and there will be a new one.

Tickets are 60 and 40. It's at the MCAD Sherwood

Yeah, the lousy page formatting makes it hard to understand, but the bolded items are the "names" of the pieces, so the program for SC seems to be the unnamed new commission, plus "Celeste," "Kaya," and "Gene Pool." I'd love to hear more about these new commissions.

Just as a precaution, here's the text:

Count me in for that. Preferably at the $60 level. Still not positive I will go but likely enough to buy the event ticket.

Hall pass confirmed. (accompanied by massive eye-rolling and harrumphing)

I'm in for a group ticket for the show -- 60 buck range. I'm in for a place to stay/share. I'm in for sharing a rental car if it seems we'll need one.

I'd like to find out some more information about other shows we could pick up while on that coast before I choose which days to travel.

Singles go on sale in May, but I think I saw group tickets might go on sale earlier. I can call and scope out the deets. I'm totally thinking $60 ticket myself. There'd be a discount so it wouldn't actually be $60.

Well, vespa and I have been talking about it and it looks like we're going to have to plan on skipping out :( Much as we'd like to see folks and the performance, we're trying to save up for a trip to Italy this year (since Tourzilla made us miss that last year). And it seems like it could be an awful big expense time and money-wise for us for a short set.

So no group tickets for us; we'll just play it by ear if my some chance things clear up last minute so we could go.
