Stewart to play La Jolla Summerfest Aug 21St

Postby njperry on 14 Apr 2009 17:47

I sm surprised that PR is willing to show herself in an avatar. She normally doesn't like that, and I am glad to see that she is doing it now. [I can't see her avi right now since most avi photos can't be seen by my work commputer (including my own) but at least I can still get sc.net.]

Not that it makes much of a difference but I suspect it will be 4 tunes (at least). The program is for commissioned works and for premieres, so seemingly there will be something new to go with Kaya, Celeste, and Gene Pool.

That wallpaper is AMAZING. Sheez. I'd love to have a dress or a pair of pants in that fabric...(and you *were* a cute kid! Just the prelude to success, eh, Bets?)

I'm gonna try, too, but it just depends on what else is going on/finances. My investments are mildly out of the crapper, but I still don't need to be spending money on anything I don't absolutely have to, for a little while...maybe it'll improve some by end of year, tho.
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!

It's going to be kool to see Stewart and all, but honestly, I'm going for my buds and myself. I've never been to CA and it's a good opportunity to cross it off the list. I'll take however many songs he gives us and have a blast! Can't wait!

Does anyone have any concrete dates on when they are going yet so that I can look at flights?

The date of the concert seems to be set for Friday August 21 in San Diego. That date appears on the Derek Powers Co. website (http://artists4film.com/index.cfm?JID=A ... StoryID=30) and was on the page Amy secretly saw before they took it down.

There is a TON of stuff to do in the SD area:

*Oodles of museums of every sort in Balboa Park
*the (really nice) zoo
*Wild Animal Park (a bit north of SD)
*must hit Coronado and the Hotel Del
*La Jolla
*Gaslamp district
*Del Mar race track for those so-inclined
*LegoLand for those with kids, or those who *are* kids
*the Calloway Golf plant gives tours (that's a bit north of SD, too)
*Scripps aquarium

I'm sure there are all kinds of music and arts festivals that we won't know about until we get a tad closer to summer. And, there's always the beach. (With slip, slap, slopping on the sunscreen, of course  )

I'm no expert on SD by any means. I've been quite a few times and these are just a few things that came to mind.
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

If I can make it, I'm thinking of flying into LA on the 20th and maybe hitching a ride down with la area nutters on the 21st and check out the LA scene on Saturday night (Rainbow bar and grill anyone?) before coming home on Sunday.

Is there anyone who'd be willing to split a hotel room with me for, say, at least Friday and Saturday nights in San Diego? 'Cause that would help convince me I can budget for this, as the airfares aren't that bad from Philly, but the hotel bills could definitely up the cost.

Double-checking the dates I'm at least relieved it's two weeks from DragonCon instead of just the week after as I'd originally feared, but stilll...money is a bit of an issue.

(editing to fix fuck-up on city locations, thanks to my brain not working well today.)

Ok, great, YEAH!

La Jolla is NOT anywhere near San Jose. So, don't fly in there or get a hotel there.

San Jose=NoCal
San Diego=Socal

Now, Conroy knows his stuff. cheap LA flights. Fly into LA, and we can caravan down. Hell, I'll rent a van if we have that many.

Anyone can crash at my place in West LA- I have an airbed and a HUGE couch. I can get some extra airbeds, and maybe use kids beds.
COME ONE, COME ALL, and I'm not kidding!

We can definitely look into a "master" class. I'll ask my friendly neighborhood master if he's available- and maybe ask Mr. Nieland! I'm seeing the PE with Conroy and some other friends this weekend, so SQUEEEE!

LA always has lots of music on, and plenty to do. We don't deserve our evil reputation.

Ok, maybe I do, but......

Yep, Nutter Konvention- SoKal. LA/SD. Anyone is welcome ALL weekend.

Email me and I am happy to help with any advice or details.

Bets, if you don't come to LA, you are toast girl!

My mis-typing mistake. I meant San Diego, not San Jose. Too many "San"s in California that are confusing to us East Coasters.

(I'll still on total brain drain after a really hectic Easter weekend with family shit to deal with.)

Given the timing too close to my actual work committments I know I can't plan more than say coming out Thrusday, going back Sunday or Monday. **IF** I can make it at all, which is a pretty big if at this point.

So just keep me in mind, anyone who needs hotel roommates actually close where this thing is taking place. Then maybe I'll make real plans.

Utterly fabulous photo. I think I may want that wallpaper, and those headphones (oh - and I really want to know what you were listening to PRule.)

Count me out of the festivities, I'm afraid. But enjoy, one and all.

I wish they would announce more detials on this. They are suppose to do that in April with tickets on sale in May.

I am very eager to know more. For no reason other than to know more about a Stewart show.

I am going to try to go and I won't be trying more if it is 5 songs as opposed to 3, but I am just eager for info.

BTW, unless Summerfest changes the venues, I saw that the venue for this three composers gig was the Sherwood Auditorium at MCASD. Nothing's official til official people say so, of course, but that's the info that I caught.

They do have 3 or so venues for Sumemrfest and the show on Aug. 21 is at the Birch North Park Theatre in San Diego rather than the MCASD. http://www.la-jolla-music-society.com/i ... Itemid=352
