OT Just saw 4/5 of REM for $17 w.Robyn Hitchcock: MORE SHOWS

Sigh. Wish I had known about this in advance so I could bug people to show up. But sure enough.

Here are the rest of the tour dates....(ETA to add more...thx REMHQ...)

All dates in April:
7 -- Variety Playhouse, Atlanta GA
8 -- Cat's Cradle, Carrboro (Chapel Hill) NC
9 -- Black Cat, Washington DC
10 -- Johnny Brenda's, Philadelphia PA
11 -- Irving Plaza, New York NY
13 -- Paradise, Boston MA
14 -- Higher Ground, Burlington VT
16 -- Mod Club, Toronto ON
17 -- Magic Bag, Ferndale (Detroit) MI
18 -- Epiphany Church, Chicago IL
19 -- Varsity Theater, Minneapolis MN

You might wanna go, if you're a fan of the band from Athens. Although, I gotta tell you: the new album Hitchcock recorded with Buck, McCaughey & Rieflin, "Goodnight Oslo," is *excellent*. I think this is really working out well creatively for all of them. Doesn't hurt that Hitchcock can sing like mad and that they've all been performing in public for 30+ years. The title track in particular was just transcendent live, although I'm also partial to "What You Is," which kicked off the show.

Caveat: Hitchcock is labelmates with Nick Lowe, and played a tour with him last year that the lovely empty and I caught in L.A.....maybe I'm biased...

Downside for them, not us: The show was the same night as not only the first Dinosaur Jr. gig here in ages but also the NCAA playoffs...maybe 200 ppl in the crowd. I hope it doesn't mean they won't play here again.

Oh, and it was only 3/5 of REM for most of the night. Mills only joined in for the encore, which I have on vid and will post tomorrow.

Bill Rieflin is *insane*. I was pretty impressed.

After the show Buck & Hitchcock put on quite a show signing CDs for the fans. Buck hung out in the crowd for the entirety of the show opener, an amazing set by local stalwart Bobby Bare Jr. They all seemed to just be having a great time. Wow. Still not believing I got to see this from the third row....

He did play the song from the soundtrack.

(After the show I literally nearly ran into him. Dude is *tall*. You wouldn't guess from seeing him onstage or onscreen)

Ok, NOW I'm super-jealous. I was driving into work this morning and, as often happens, I had a few extra minutes and just happened to find my car pulling into a parking space conveniently in front of my fave record store. I picked up their new cd before heading into the office and I loved it soo much that I texted Dive not thinking about the time difference...

So, sorry bout the 10am random text squeeing over the album <grin>

Dying to see them at Bonnaroo now--I've always loved Robyn Hitchcock, but this is especially sublime.

I'll call you a little later about something else, but in a nutshell: if you can at all get to any of these dates, it'll be well worth your time.

Before I realized it, kinda, I had become a Hitchcock fan. He's just so supremely awesome you can't help yourself. Really hadn't even caught onto all the Beatles influence until I saw him this last time. Mr. Dive got me the big fat vinyl album set for Xmas this last year....we'll have to fire it up over the weekend.

(Good friend of mine goes by the moniker Queen Elvis...you'd have to know her....so of course I knew all about that album. Was dragged to my first Hitchcock show by QE, which was one of the last ones at the old 9:30 club in D.C.)
