New York / Los Angeles & Dietmar

Postby DirtyMartini on 10 Feb 2009 22:33
Something else brewing in NYC in April...my guy John Glover is going to be in the revival of Waiting for Godot with previews beginning April 3 -- along with Nathan Lane, Bill Irwin, and John Goodman. Looks to be awesome with that cast.

I'll definitely be going (no doubt more than once) between April and July. Any other folks who might want to join me, give a holler and I can see about getting tickets and when...
Bill Irwin = yay, but Nathan Lane?!?

Well, regardless, Mo and I might be interested in catching this at some point. Thanks for the info, sock.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

I'm going to try to come up for an afternoon, but won't know if I can until plans firm up with everyone and I can ask for a specific day off of work, but I'm going to TRY to make it!

Dietmar, you should let us know next time you are going to be in Cincinnati/Dayton OH area. Cincinnati has fantastic architecture, some cool underrated hiking spots, an active art & music scene. AND the 4th largest reference library collection in the country! Also, better food than the yucky chilli the natives sloop up!
Dayton also has the Air Force Museum, a must for gearheads of any sort....
Hope y'all have a great meet up in NYC>

Yes, I've been wondering about the D's schedule for NYC lately myself. I've told my work peeps I'll be taking some time off that week. Just need to iron out the deets.

I'll arrive at JFK airport on April 27 around 2:20pm

I'll leave NY for LA on April 30 around 11:30am

then it's LA from April 30 - 3:05pm until I leave on May 4 around 7:15am

I should be free to be in NYC on Tuesday (the 28th) and Wednesday (the 29th) of that week, although I won't be able to stay the night on the 29th or stay out too late that evening as I have some commitments early in the day in Philly on the 30th. But just keep me posted on what the general plans are.

what I intended to do was to eat cheese curds at Fat Annie's every afternoon - Monday 27, Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29.

but I'm open for anything else...

we could also do a POLICE tour of New York - checking out where they played in the past - CBGB's, Bottom Line, Palladium etc. or what's left of those venues

it's just GREAT that you're coming !

I'd love to see a museum - but no modern art, please - I love the old ones: Rembrandt, Van Gogh etc. where you actually can recognize what the artist wanted to paint
A man after my own heart and passion, definitely! The Metropolitan would absolutely by my pick for a visit as they have a truly amazing collection of classical artwork.

And for the really old ones, my favorite is The Cloisters -- http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_Of_Art/the_cloisters -- which is a division of the Met, but towards the northern tip of Manhattan.

Be warned: the Palladium was demolished (I think there's an NYU dorm now); the Bottom Line is now also an NYU building (an office or classroom or something); and CBGBs is now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ExCBGB.jpg . (Turnover is huge in NYC.) It's doable, but be prepared.

Come to London again Dietmar. I think they've cleaned the carpet at the Hope and Anchor, but it is still there....

CBGB's and co. were just a suggestion meaning that I'm open to everything !

I'll definitely be in London sometime soon and I'll make sure to meet all the strange folk there...

BTW, because a few folks had asked me which day might be "better" to visit Dietmar in NYC:

Dietmar and I will need to wake up early Thursday morning to allow enough time for traffic and getting lost on the way to the airport, so Tuesday looks like the day in which we'll all be less concerned about timing.

Just to see if I've got this straight:

People in town Tuesday and Wednesday:
Dietmar
IndyGirl
GinaSuperCat
sockii? (or was that a one day or the other, sock?)

Considering coming to town:
Divemistress
policerule
samburusunset

Locals who have mentioned wanting to meet:
Susan
BABA

(plus Nancy, Mo, and me)
