Psh... No Simon Phillips? No Carter Beauford? And uh, where is Gene Krupa? Buddy Rich?!?!?

at last someone mentioned carter beauford! as for rock music, he is among my top three, along with stewart and vinnie. and when you listen closely to carter`s hi hat work you can`t deny stewart`s influence...

Also no MITCH MITCHELL???

Much better drummer than Ginger Baker I would say... many drummers including Stewart Copeland cite him as a major influence.
Is anybody alive in here?
Psh... No Simon Phillips? No Carter Beauford? And uh, where is Gene Krupa? Buddy Rich?!?!? That list makes no sense. :) Not only should Stewart be closer up top, but Buddy Rich trumps them all- ALL drummers know that, no matter who your fav is!!

Now my personal list:
Stewart
Neil
Carter

That's all, The end.
Hey, you stole my picks

The one by Tony Fletcher, right? I agree - it's a fabulous read, very revealing.

nice list but definatly more a 'my favourites' list than best drummers....which is cool.

nice to hear mark brezezicki mentioned hes a real fave and i believe a much underrated contempory of S.C.
I always thought brezezicki kinda carried a certain style from S.C after the police 'went a bit quiet'.
I believe brezezicki states he was doing a rock/pop hybrid thing before or simultaneously to S.C.

A best drummers list is crazy without buddy rich..i dont really go in for 'theres one best drummer' thing but when you hear and see buddy rich it really makes you wonder. incredible.

Joey jordinson from slipknot is great too...there are lots of drummers who can do what he does in many ways but hes brought some really crazy extreme drumming to a real mass audience of kids...and hes a great showman.

oh yeah..think weve forgotton steve gadd. pure class.

them's my thoughts.

I agree that any "best drummers" list without Buddy Rich is crap, and that Stewart deserves at least top 5 no matter who else makes the list.

I also think Jerry Allison should be there somewhere, but he was so long ago he gets missed a lot. (He was Buddy Holly's drummer in the Crickets.)

Oh, and I think Phil Collins should get an honorable mention. He may not be in the top 20 otherwise, but he does have the one most famous fill in all of rock and roll. (In the Air Tonight)

I personally give credit to Ringo Starr and I think he should be in the top twenty for one friggin reason- the guy had to jam with a suit and tie on...nobody is considering that one bit and I assume you all are not drummers..it is damn hard- and no sweat stains either. Some of these others on the list have a pool of sweat on their snare. Plus I dont remember ever seeing him break a sweat on his forehead either.

Yeah, I don't think Phil gets enough credit - I love his work on the earlier Genesis albums especially.

So are Bonham and Moon and they're on the list.

The list is called "of all time" not "living", so Buddy belongs, definitely.

For me Stewart is the number # 1
This list is about the best drummers in the world so isn't totally from the rock scene...so I could include some from the jazz scene:

- Buddy Rich * ( I know Stewart admire him a lot )
- Omar Hakim
- Alex Acuña ( former drummer of "Weather report" - he is from Peru 8) )

one more thing...lets Stewart the space to make a drum solo and he definitely could destroy Neil Pert reputation as the best drummer hehehe
