OT: Starz On Demand US Festival 1983
Sounds like you and I were in the same car that day. You have to be 16 to get through a day like that. Remember the B-52's? Incredible dust cloud from all the dancing and was the biggest surpriseof the day.
Was it after the B52s that someone had the bright idea to cool off the crowd and just turn on hoses and spray the whole place with water turning the dirt field into a mud field :?: I remember looking down and seeing the shape of Tweety Bird looking up at me. I thought Oh my God I am hallucinating! But then I realized it was someone's beach towel covered with a layer of mud through which you could see the outline of Tweety Bird.
My video has the entire set starting w/ Voices and has the numbers burned in. I recall it is dark for a short moment, but need to punch it in the ol' VCR this weekend to check. I will let you know once I check the beginning to be sure my memory serves me and when I ever get around to making a copy on a disc.
We eagerly await on the edge of our collective seats! Thank you! :D

I apologize for the delay in checking the tape. I have confirmed it is the entire show starting w/ Voices. Now I need to get it transferred to DVD. I have quite a bit of Police related material on VHS from various sources and I would like to one day go through it all and preserve the good stuff on DVD. I am open to transfer suggestions. I have not researched the purchase of a VHS/DVD converters.

Thanks,
P-Love

You're new to the community, P-Love (tho quite obviously not new to Police fandom in general)....think you'll find folks are generally a great-hearted lot, which is why I believe the deluge of offers you're going to get to help xfer to DVD should be accepted. ;)

Seriously, we all have a bunch of other great items to share, so if you are in need of anything do let the community know. Odds are if a particular boot or recording exists, somebody here has it or knows where to get it. See also the awesome Wiki that some of our members put together: http://www.policefans.org/Police_wiki/i ... =Main_Page
Anyway, the copy with the timecodes in the middle was around between collectors some years ago, but is incomplete (it's dark for the first tracks) while the copy WITHOUT the timecodes reached Stewart hands (see some extracts on Everyone Stares).
Oh goody. Something else to bug him for, when he descends from his ivory manse in the clouds...;)

Yay! Another great gem out there!! Yeah there is a bit STEWART talks about in ES about the US Festival footage being in a vault for some years and this guy gave it to him for free !!

Man that was a massive flood of people. I would have been exhausted too!! Glad you got to experience that. Glad you were ok.

(you know I want a copy) Hell Yeah!!

I am sure I have opened up something where I won't be able to manage the volume, but I don't mind sharing and I am sure it will slowly get in people's collections. I am just glad I can share something that is in its entirety. Yes, I like Stewart's copy better! I have a room dedicated to all things Police and most of what I have has surfaced. In the pre-internet day's this was quite a challenge for a teenage fan. I have been moving this stuff for 30 years! I will be posting a KK poster that I have never seen anywhere else and maybe this forum can help nail down its origin and if it is unique.

Once I get this converted I will let you know. Please be patient w/ me. Quality is decent and I am not sure if it is attributed to the old VCR or the fact the tape is 26 years old, or both.

Hey Dive, on a side note you are the one that bought my Red Rocks ticket for the second night. Maybe you already put the 2 together.

I'm now fully set up to do VHS -> DVD conversion. I managed to find a MINT condition JVC S-VHS VCR with S-Video output for a few bucks, and I'm capturing with a Pinnacle card. It's been pretty neat-o so far.

P-LOVE: I also have a contact who has encoded many of the US Festival performances being shared on the live music boards. He's done a great job on them, so if you're having trouble, there's that option as well.

Thanks for the update! :D

I'm back after locating a Sony device on ebay and am making a copy this weekend. Everything worked and the quality is pretty good and has the classic grainy and slightly warbly sound of a VHS tape from the 80's, but is definitley watchable.

So how does this work (via personal email?)? I know I have a few interested parties and would like to keep this so I don't break the bank on postal fees, but am more than happy to send a few out and possibly they can circulate from there. Also, each one is made from the original tape so it takes time. In regards to a trade I am always interested in your favorite best quality live recording or demo to add to the collection. We can discuss off line.

I can also include a short interview w/ Martha Quinn and Stewart for the Rythmatist release in 82 that was on MTv if you want it. I can include the Beat and the Heads earlier sets that day if you would like that as well.

I think here at SC.net, the best way to get things distributed is by way of modified Ponzi scheme. You send the DVD out to a few SC.net regulars who agree to send them out to a few more people.

I am agreeable to making a few copies for some nutters if you send me a copy.

Also, personally, I would love to have the stuff from The Beat and The Heads and any interview stuff included on the DVD.

Let me know. My e-mail is found on the button below.

I can also duplicate & send out copies to people. EQ and I have done this in the past, and it works out quite well. Email in button below. :)

Cheers for doing this!

Oh, KIDDIES!!!

I have received the DVD from the wonderous P-LOVE, and it does have the COMPLETE US Festival performance of The Police! It is now in the hands of the fans! :D

The video does have both of the annoying barcodes, just like the previous--but shorter--version. There are few VHS tracking lines at times (minor)...but the colors are much better and doesn't suffer from generation issues. Sound quality is good, the mix is nicer, though there is slight buzz throughout the show (vhs tracking/head azimuth possibly)...but it can be EQ'd out pretty well.

I will make this available to people shortly. If you would like a copy, **EMAIL ME LIKE THE LAST TIME (see button below my signature)**, and provide your mailing address.

U.S. people will get priority, but I will send out to some international ones if you ask nicely.

HUGE THANK YOU to P-LOVE, everyone!!!

I to just received and just finished watching.
Wow, I went into a time warp of almost twenty seven years and the memories came flooding back.
I didn't think they did ELTSDIM but there it is.
A blistering Bring on the Night, perhaps that is why I did not quite buy into the Tourzilla opening version.
And One World with Ranking Roger, need I say more. Where we ever that young and skinny
I never realized that was the biggest single crowd they had ever played to date as Sting tells the audience. Forgot that part, I did remember him commenting on the moon and Shawdows with the stand up bass.

Big SHOUT OUT to P-Love.
