New LES CLAYPOOL tour!!!!

Postby GinaSuperCat on 22 Feb 2009 15:12

Ok, sorry I didn't post this sooner (everything's been absolutely nuts around here--job negotiations, and all that <grin>) but PJ Harvey is going to be playing in NYC the night before Les and I think PCat and I are gonna try and make that too. @ The Fillmore.

Looks like tix are sold out atm (PJ only does like one show in NYC and one in LA on recent tours) but they are all GA and I'm sure more are to be released (plus they are like over two dozen on StubHub at like 90 bucks and I'm sure they'll lower, too). She's just released a record with John Parrish and I don't think I can pass up the chance to see her live (she's absolutely AMAZING imo)...

That's be a pretty sweet little circuit: PJ Harvey, Les, and Stan--plus hanging out with the NE Nutter Corridor!!!

The Les show looks to be quite an event <grin>

Unfortunately I am going to have to wait and see for this weekend--am up against a major deadline and have to get a truckload before we can leave. As such we have already had to nix plans to see PJH in NYC <cry>

Am still planning on the weekend in Philly, but will let y'all know if anything changes--keeping my fingers crossed!!

Good luck, Miss Kitty!

As long as my brain's not having an LSD trip that day, Mo and I are still on for Friday.

Any thoughts on meeting up beforehand?
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Seems like a good chance we could get a performance of Dont Box Me In from Stan on Saturday: http://www.messagefortheweek.com/entert ... 3-jem-STAN

I saw that today too, Con! 8)

I hope everyone can make it!

The area around The Electric Factory isn't the best, but maybe Sockii knows of a place to meet. The problem with EF is that it's all GA and there will be a line to stand in. There is booze inside, but not food that I know of. I can't remember. I'm going to try to swing out of work early to get down there.

Anyone have any ideas?

As for Saturday... World Cafe Live has a great restaurant & bar, anyone going there should just plan to eat and drink there, IMO. Makes it a lot easier to meet and we'll have more time to hang out before the show. Thoughts?

I saw him play DBMI a few years back, was *absolutely* amazing. Although since this tour is all acoustic so DBMI will sound a bit different than this crowd is accustomed <grin>

I have to tell you his (or WoV's) cover of Ring of Fire is one of the best Cash covers, imho...it's slightly bent and completely wonderful. Thanks Con for posting the link, it mentions he also played that one.

Info about this tour: “Desert Of Dreams: A Sandstorm of Song,” an all inclusive retrospective show highlighting Ridgway's musical journey from past to present. Ridgway and his band will be performing key songs and music from his entire career in an intimate acoustic format with Pietra Wexstun (keys, melodica, vocals) and Rick King guitar, bass, vocals). New songs will be played as well from his soon-to-be-released new solo CD out this summer."

Ah, I knew I forgot an upcoming release in another thread that I was looking forward to!!

Les' tour hits Toronto tomorrow night. As much as I'd like to, I'm not going to the show. It's hard for me to swing something like that on a school night. If it had been last week when we had our school break, I'd have been there for sure. Some of the other acts look very intriguing. I'll keep a look out for any reviews of the show in the local media and pass along any info. Enjoy your show in Philly!
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.

Let me ponder and see what I think would be the best meet-up locale. There might be a decent bar in Old City which is not too far away, and there are lots of places to eat up that way but I'm not super-familiar with it myself. Being a Friday night a lot of places could be pretty busy.

I'll say this much - I doubt Les will be hitting the stage until pretty late, and I'm not sure how early people want to get into the venue as I'm not sure how many of the openers I'm interested in (and I'm avoiding the floor to get a spot in the far corner of the balcony).

That would probably be my thought as well, as there aren't a lot of other choices right near there, either, unless you head over closer to the Penn campus.

I'm so happy that you're in Gina!!!

Friday night:

this place is close to EF I think and it looks a little snazzy, but good to meet.
