Ticket Pricing & TPT Member Complainers...

Well, I'm just getting all excited about seeing the Police live for the first time and got to exploring what the seating layout might be for when the Seattle Key Arena tix go on sale, and ran across a ticket broker site offering Row 30 floor seats for $1395.00 a pop!! Cheapest on there are Row 14 200 level seats at $327.00 each!!

I've been waiting patiently to see how things go, and then make a decision about getting a Police Fan Club membership. The more I think about it, getting the tickets are an afterthought to signing up. God bless her, Divemistress mentioned something in another thread about all the other perks that these kinds of memberships give you. What if they offer the 'Police Around the World' DVD to fan club members a couple weeks before they go on sale? That'd be worth a $20 spot in my book. Plus there are Members only discouts int he Police Online Store....what kinds of things are they going to offer as the tour gets into full swing? Perhaps they'll offer CD's of some of their live shows like Pearl Jam did a few years back. I'd be kicking myself if they were only offered to fan club members....

I guess what I'm saying is I'm joining BECAUSE I'M A POLICE FAN, getting good tickets, while important, isn't the be all end all for me any longer. Besides, with my budget I'll probably be shooting for the best $90 seats I can get anyway. I'm looking at the fan club purchase as more of an investment than a quick payoff.

Anyhow, I'd love to hear any and all of YOUR ideas as to what kind of perks you think the Police might offer, or would like them to offer their fan club members.

I also should add that I'll probably only be a lurker on the TPT message boards, at least until all the hate subsides. My heart belongs with my homies here on Stewart's site....

Yeah, I'm really surprised at all the people on there who call themselves "fanatic Police fans" who are doing nothing but complaining, and saying they only spent their $100 to get good tickets.

I would imagine it'll be an extravaganza in there, if you like interviews, photos, and even exclusive interviews with band members and their opening acts. Maybe rare downloads of any new live recordings, too.

Don't get me wrong, I do think some people have rightful grievances (I'm not sure what I think about the Best Buy club going ahead of the fan club), but I've already posted plenty about what I think about it all (to get good seats, fly to Tampa), so I won't subject you all to it again.

Well all of those possible perks you mentioned sound good to me Dive!

Yeah, the Best Buy members getting 1st crack is really lame IMO. But, they ponied up the dough to be a sponser, and it seems to be the way the music industry operates these days....quite a different animal than when our heroes ruled the world in the 80's, that's for sure.

3/4 is what I call the beat Stewart does in many Police tracks, such as the beginning of Regatta de Blanc, or in Can't Stand Losing You right before "I guess this is our last goodbye..." where he's hitting rim clicks in 3 time while dropping quarter notes on the kick drum, hence Three over Four. There's probably a better way to explain it (and if any more properly trained drummers that frequent the board want to post the technical explaination, I'd love to hear it!) but I'm a self taught drummer so that's the way my mind makes sense out of what my drum hero is doing....

As I mentioned in another thread, I joined the fan club b/c I'm a fan. I'd guess there may be the chance to get any rereleases etc. first. I've been getting a few email newsletters but its not like the info isn't here asap anyway Maybe some of us will be lucky to win the signed lithos

I'm thinking that there may be chances to win tix like with Sting.com etc or chances to meet them etc. only for fan club members and unless there's an analogous sponsor for the non-US and Canada dates to subsume the role of Best Buy it looks like the fan club may be the only presales for the rest of the locales.

Once all this initial-dates presale fiasco is taken care of I'm sure more things will appear as benefits--I'm sure until this clamor for tickets subsides, however, that those involved with TPT will have their work cut out for them...

Befor anyone on here spents 1500 US$ think about coming over to Europe. I will buy all the tickets I can and I expect the prices to stay fairly "sane" on the mainland. So if I ever come across a few extra tickets - no chairs I only go for the pit we are not THAT old - I will offer them here ... Paris and Cologne are not that bad in September ...

And yes waiting for 23 years for those guys to reunite I just can't be bothered to complain about the money part. I mean how much would you spent to score on your favorite porn star ... ???

My father is from Italy and my mother lives in France so I've already been thinking about the possible Euro dates...can't wait to see the dates (beyond what appeared in the 'authoritative' source wikipedia) and think about hopping the pond...right after winning the lottery!

YES GinaSuperCat, Polyrhythms is precisely the term. Like I said, I'm self taught so I don't know all the terminology or how to read music for that matter. It's kind of funny though because when other musicians ask me who I've studied with, I always say Stewart Copeland for 15 years, more recently it's been Chris Adler, and when I first got started I worked with Rick Allen. It's always good fun explaining to them what I mean....

A little more info on the 3/4-

4/4 time = 4 beats in a measure of typical "rock" music. When counting off the bass drum hits on the 1 and 3 beats while the snare is on the 2 and 4. That's the most extreme simplistic version, but the vast majority of popluar music's drumbeats are based off of that. Stewart for the most part (at least in Police songs) plays in 4/4 time, but his snare hits on the 3 -think Walking on the Moon- count it out next time. Regatta he actually hits on the 4, at least in the part where sting sings "CHA!".

3/4 time = 3 beats in a measure, just like Gina said, a waltz- 1 2 3, 1 2 3...
Murder by Numbers is in a variation of 3/4 time- it's actually a 12/8 time signature (snare on the 4th and 10th beats in the chorus).

Oh and yeah, Stewart's polyrhythms is what makes his drumming so addictive to me. I love playing all around the "beat", staying in 4/4 while doing something totally different.
Check out what Carter Beauford does with his hi hats in the majority of DMB songs. Also any Reggae- I love reggae too, which puts the snare emphasis on the 3 as well.

IF you really want to get into polyrhythms (for all instruments) check out mid 80's King Crimson with Bill Bruford, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Robert Fripp.

NICE. All kinds of great suggestions here...I picked up about a half dozen Bob Marley albums a couple years ago. Can't get enough of his band, especially the album 'Survival'. Any particular albums you might recommend for King Crimson, blueboy?

I do dig complicated music for the brain, but when it comes time to play I tend to prefer more straightforward rock. Adrian Belew lives here in Nashville (he's from Covington, Kentucky) and every now and then he'll turn up and play a surprise performance.

One that must have been fun was last time Henry Rollins was in town at the same time as William Shatner, and Belew played lead guitar on their erstwhile single "Can't Get Behind That," from Shatner's "Has Been" CD. I keep hoping for a reprise at Bonnaroo, but so far no luck...
