Shamelessly OT: Help this artist by picking your favorites

Postby sockii on 17 Mar 2009 13:42

Hey folks,

So there's a big scifi/fantasy art show I try to get into every year, and jury selection process can be a bit of a pain in the ass (as in, you never know exactly what they're going for). But in the past I've found if I let friends pick their favorites from what I have eligible to submit, I usually make it past the cut.

So here's a gallery of 35 recent astronomical/fantasy-landscape pieces I've done this year. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pick up to 7 of your favorites (you can see the titles by clicking on the thumbnail images). I'd really appreciate your input on this! It's usually a very profitable show for me when I can get in, but I always stress out over making the cut.

Anyway, here are the choices:

Thanks again in advance for your help & input!

Very impressive. Good luck with the show.

Here are my favorites, with the top 4 being being real stand outs for my eye:

"Forest Spirit"*
"Lake of Fire"*
"Domed City"*
"Nightflyers"*
"Beyond the Grid"
"Network"
"Distant Landscape"

I am much more a fantasy fan than science fiction fan, so the ones that are more fantasy get my attention, especially if there are dragons. That said, some of my choices are sc-fi, such as Beyond the Grid.

After the first 4, I could easily pick different ones of the wonderful choices and probably would later today if i were to do it again.

i'm not even remotely "into" sci-fi et al, but great stuff and best o' luck, sockii.........

here are the results from the smax jury......

network
exodus
firesky
pathways
the ravine
composition

and my fave would have to be The Watchers....

how is it a profitable show for you? do you sell stuff or is there booty to be won after judging?

*after thought* hey everyone: let's all pick different ones so that actually we're of no help at all!!... oh, wait, we're already doing that....

Wow, sockii. You are one talented woman! Really great stuff (and I'm not gonna ask you anymore if you ever sleep...even if you said you do, I no longer believe it's remotely possible!).

Here's what stood out for me:

Trajectories
Beyond the Grid
Along the Grid
Nightscape
City in Ruins
Darkstar
The Watchers

This was tough. Your pictures are all hauntingly beautiful. Here are my picks.

Lake of Fire
Desert Sky
Glacier Melt
The Ravine
Doomed City
The Watchers

The last one has this compelling creepy appeal that I can't get over.

Best of luck with it and thanks for alerting us to your website. You have some great stuff there.
