Last concert I saw was 3 years ago at the Orange County Fair - Tears for Fears, with Dishwalla and Gin Blossoms as openers. GREAT CONCERT. I took Carrie - her first rock concert! We had 3rd row seats. She was a little blown away by the noise at first and acted real shy, putting her head in my lap - I think she thought all those people were there to see her, lol. She loves the song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". As soon as she heart the opening notes, she looked up at the stage in absolute wonder and said, "What's their name?! That's my song!" then she sang along and hugged and kissed me all the way home. It was ENCHANTING for me. I would have taken her to REM when they came through here last summer, but that would have been WAY too overwhelming and we would have had nosebleed seats. But she got to see Michael personally the night before, so that was even better.

OMG...the Pogues...face-off...one of the best live shows...ever...and Shane sounded great and looked pretty good...shuffling on and off stage, priceless...dying...bashing a tray over your head for quarter notes, underrated percussion technique...dying...more once I get words...<3 GSC

All of which are either local or in small clubs or both. Yep, it's shaping up to be a good spring, even if the new Neko Case album is disappointing.

Oh, no--I had just picked up Middle Cyclone today (I suppose I should have been a little more than surprised to have been able to buy it this this morning with my soy latte in an Atlanta Starbucks) but haven't had the chance to even give it one listen yet...

I know she will be incredible live, nevertheless....

And Cracker, wow, I haven't even thought of them since they opened for the Dead oh like 15 years ago? The even played a few CVB tunes, were most excellent...

It's just really, reaaaally mellow and sleepy. I'm not a fan of that kind of thing generally...I much prefer her at her more rockin' or at least melodic. I'm telling you, it's great lullaby music. *sigh*

Lemme know if you guys may want to come back around for either the Hitchcock or Cracker shows. Was gonna tell you when I saw you. April 6 & May 17, respectively...

Somehow going to see The Vaselines and You Am I on the same night later this month. Irritatingly they are not playing in the same venue ;-)

Am I jealous. What I wouldn't give to see Acca Dacca in front of 30,000 screaming German fans.

(A couple of my regrets in life: Not having gone to more shows for this past tour; not having shoveled out the big bucks to get up close. I won't be making that mistake again, should I get another opportunity.

At least I did get to see the last U.S. show, which meant the bugs had been worked out of the live performance....not that they haven't been playing more or less the same setlist for 25 years. I loved every minute of it.

ETA: God help me. I'm considering buying a ticket to see Poison and Def Leppard........

because Cheap Trick's opening! Seriously, I think I'll go see 'em do their set, then leave....

I heard the new Neko Case album is very good. I think Rolling Stone gave it either 4 1/2 or 5 stars out of five (or is it a bad sign that Rolling Stone like it?). She was on the Tonight Show recently (meant to e-mail you about that Jean; oops) and she also has a song out on Rock Band, so she is really trying to get her new material some exposure.

I will always love her, no matter what she does...for a few different reasons: she's a badass visual artist, she doesn't take shit from record labels, she's articulate and brilliant in interviews...

While this album isn't my favorite and it's not really my personal taste, I can't say it's objectively bad. In fact, it may be the kind of thing that rewards repeated listening, and I'm going to give it a few more chances before I unequivocally write it off. The arrangements are fabulous, her vocal range is displayed beautifully. Here are my objections: The lyrics are so opaque as to be almost meaningless, which isn't new for her, but which does get in the way of my personal enjoyment of the material. Nearly every song is (very) downtempo, but then it could be I'm spoiled by listening to her work with New Pornographers (and having seen her sing the likes of "Letter to an Occupant" and "Twin Cinema" live a few times.)

This release isn't a career killer and she deserves whatever success comes her way. She's certainly worked for it. I'll be standing as near the stage as I can get when she plays Bonnaroo in June. Oh, and thanks for the tip on Leno, but I already taped it - I'm on her email list.

Killers: good, except for some songs from the new album (which still sucks)

AC/DC stopped playing 50 minutes ago and I'm already home with my ears ringing...

They looked old, but they played young. What a great rhythm section! And I'd die to see Angus play some blues numbers in a small venue. Brian Johnson, hmm, OK, losing it a bit in the middle but regaining strength at the end.

As a woman, I guess I'm supposed to be offended - but part of what makes AC/DC so great is the sense of humor. I think I'd probably really like those guys in person.

And Angus. Good lord. I don't really want to describe it as him against other guitarists, but he's definitely one of the very best I personally have ever seen.

(a lot of AC/DC is dumb, but likeable :)

and Angus is definitely the very best for this kind of music (blues based rock music)

as I said I've love to see him play some real blues!
