I decided to travel to the Westfalenhalle (15 min. on foot!) for the early Sunday performance (October 11, 2009).

I bought 4 tickets including two for the first nutters who want to join - if there are none I'll take some friends, no problem.

I bought the cheapest kinds of tickets. This is an event where you don't have to be close, so I prefer to have a good view from above.

Doesn't anyone feel that the use of live animals in a performance like this is.... well just horrible?

I'm so upset by this.

I suppose I'm thinking that loud music, roaring crowds, fire etc isn't the type of surroundings animals like to be in. It's going to be scary and miserable for them. Being hauled in a trailer or horsebox from one country to the next won't be much fun for them too. Stressfull and exhausting.

I'm not some huge animal rights activist but having worked with horses, dogs etc since I left school about 27 years ago I have learnt, sometimes from my own mistakes, what animals can cope with, what they have fun doing, and what scares the living daylights out of them.

Like us people, they are all individuals. I've also learnt that animal owners or trainers don't always have their animals best interests at heart. Sometimes it's about them (the owners or trainers) being successful and making a living.

I wasn't telling anyone they shouldn't go and see it Dietmar, or questioning how you look after your own pets. Just asked if anyone else had thought about the animals involved. There really wasn't any need to swear at me.

I have a feeling that Stewart himself may be a horse lover and I'm sure he wouldnt be involved in anything where the horses did not receive the utmost care.

I have been involved in the Animal Welfare Act currently going through Parliament in the UK and know people involved in lots of animal welfare organisations within the UK and believe me if there was any concern about the welfare of the horses this would not be happening here.

I have worked with eventing teams and you only have to watch a horse on its toes desperate to get in that dressage ring or pogo-ing just before the off on the cross country to know that they love to perform and they love to event & some of the horses really get a kick out of the roar of the crowd when they complete a clear round in showjumping. If the horse does not have an aptitude or personality that fits this kind of environment then it will not be there as it will not perform. Just as a Police horse does his job studiously and calmly policing the crowds after a football match because he understands what he is there for, these horses will know too.

I do understand your concerns, but there are lots of people out there working with horses for entertainment purposes who do understand horses and love horses & always have their best interest at heart.

I do know what your saying Halcyonlisa because I was involved in the competetive horse world for many years, even did some of it myself, and there is no doubt that horses, or at least some of them, enjoy competing.

This is a bit different though don't you think? Fire, loud music, long hauls out of the uk and all over Europe etc..

It's not just horses involved though is it?

It doesn't stop me loving Stewarts music, I just don't like this particular project.
