Vote for which album for the Police to Play Live

Postby cpriddims on 16 Feb 2007 03:56

311 did this for the Atlanta show a few years back and it was awesome. People went online to vote for their favorite album and they actually performed the album with the most votes in its entirety live! (Grassroots won). They did this for the first set, took a brief intermission, then came back out and played a variety of other things for another hour and a half.

Soooo....
Which album would you want to see live in its entirety?

1. Outlandos D'Amour
2. Regatta de Blanc
3. Zenyatta Mondatta
4. Ghost in the Machine
5. Synchronicity

I vote for #3 "Regatta." I think it has the most variety in one album. But either way, if they play 'Can't Stand Losing You' into the 'Regatta' jam when I see them, I am going to flip out and jump straight up to heaven!

After years and years of upholding the holy trinity of the first three albums I have to say that recently I have been digging GitM severly like never before--but, after all that, if it has to be one I vote Outlandos :)

Zenyatta always has been my favorite. I feel like it's truly where everything fell together for them, professionally and musically. I know they have a ton of awesome stuff off Regatta, but I would always vote for Zenyatta just to hear Driven to Tears- my all time favorite Police Song! :D

Don't worry cpriddims, for sure our lovely trio in The Police music, is wiser than us, and they will choose exactly what fans want.

Anyway, your poll is amazing

Zenyatta is my fav....and I'd have to hear Driven to Tears just as you would Spec A!, 'cause I'm not sure Stewart could play it without putting the octobans to use. Was I the only one bummed that he didn't wail on those sparkly blue tubes of beauty during the Grammy's OR the Police Rehearsals?! I must hear octobans, or I get grouchy!! err, I just really dig the sound of them and I used to have a set but got rid of them because I couldn't do them justice...

I voted "Reggatta", my fav album, even if I really love "Ghost" too.

Did you notice that "Reggatta de Blanc" is still one of the favourite Police albums, and not only for us, 'strange people', but also for the critics? And did you notice it's the album that includes the most Stewart's songs? ;) Strange, isn't it?

I'm not so keen on the later albums because it becomes too much about Sting and Stew & Andy get increasingly sidelined. Outlandos & Regatta capture them in a more creatively equitable space and therefore they translate what I think is the true essence of the band. It’s difficult; as I love Outlandos because it’s so feisty, but it has to be Regatta, ‘cos for me it’s the record that best encapsulates what The Police are about... and as said above it has the most Stewart songs on it
It would be ok on any other day!

'Zenyatta' is my favourite but I would not survive a Police set without hearing "Message in a Bottle" or "Beds too Big Without You".... and I want to hear "It's Alright for You" !!

The only weak song on zenyatta mondatta is behind my camel and even that isn't that bad. There is more filler on regatta but it's still a great album and the reggae rhythms are fantastic. I love the atmosphere of zenyatta and i love it when i hear that airport background noise on man in a suitcase. What language is it? Voices and TWIRD were remixed into dance music in the 90s which tells me they were really hooky songs.
Ghost in the machine and synchronicty are good albums but something had obviously happened between the three members and the great atmosphere is lost on the records. I think ghost is cluttered in places and the extra instrumentation doesn't work. Hugh padgm is this great producers and ghosts production wise is worse than the first three albums.
