Planning on Bonnaroo? Post Here!

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 16 Feb 2007 05:13

Jameson Inn in Manchester both times. This year we're thinking about driving up to Murfreesboro, depending on how much the hotel packages are this year.

I'd actually seriously consider camping, but DH seems to be adamant about wanting to get in some air conditioning and decent showers each evening...

Sooo..

We can just drop by to use the shower, eh Dive? :D

Now here's an idea!

Start a 'Dive' membership fan club, highest level gets to stop by and invade your hotel room, shower, etc... JK

Seriously though, how much is a room at that hotel?

Yeah, but then the membership fee would only get us 2 minute showers versus the Best Buy membership that would get us 15 minute showers.

GOD DAMN IT!

Haha.

I'm lucky enough to have a couple of friends from here that appear interested in making the trek. Still trying to decide what our best option would be tho. A couple of bits of info would help us make a decision, although i'm betting the guys aren't gonna be willing to spring for four whole days. Frankly i'm not sure i am either. But what i'm wondering is:

1)Will single day general admission tix be available?

2)Is VIP seating sheltered?

Thanks in advance, D!

No, and no, jedsoon. Sorry for the bad news.

CP, the hotels up in Murfreesboro - about a 30 mile drive - are averaging about 80 clams per evening. They'll also sell hotel packages with the Bonnaroo tickets and those aren't outrageous - I think they're about $100 a night. We may just shell out for that, since the drive is shorter.

Warm thanks for being such a fountain of info. Sign me up for that fanclub!

This is what makes me wince on seeing the Police at the 'roo. That may nix VIP for me. I just wonder what i will feel like by the end of the day when they take the stage, after getting baked for 12 hours. And i don't mean the good kind of baked either, although that might make it okay..

I'll have to talk it over with my friends and see what we can come up with. It's fantastic that you can go back and forth to your car, tho. I wouldn't even mind the walk, as it would constitute a little added adventure for us on the day just to make the journey.

I just filled out the Bonnaroo volunteer apllication form.

Go to http://www.bonnarooadmin.com/roovols.html if you want to apply.

If you are selected to help, you get access to showers, meals, and the volunteer campsite area (which I assume is closer than the general camping area). All you have to do is submit a $250 money order deposit when you check in (which you get back if you do your volunteer assignments). It also says it includes free admission and you will get a chance to watch groups perform.

You can read all about it online.

I just may go for it of they ok me. It would be a workout, but also fun to meet new people and contribute to a great event.

I still want to meet all of my Stew forum brutha's and sistah's though!

That's how most local people get in free to the annual 4-day Merlefest, a the only remotely cool thing that happens in my hometown on a regular basis.

Oh, by the way, i'm going to Bonnaroo! I've got three local friends confirmed and working on a couple more. Everybody here is pretty excited, and so am i! I've always wanted to camp out for Merle and really immerse myself in it one year, but with it being a bluegrass festival, there have simply never been any must-see acts on the bill. This is gonna be my chance not only to finally see the Police, but also to get swept away by the social setting and just be a pseudo-hippie for 3 or 4 days! :D

Outstanding!! Now I get to pump you for info on merlefest, jed...I've always wanted to come to that.

Forgot to say that you are welcome to come use my shower, cp. You really might consider going in with a friend to get one of the hotel packages yourself. They've got the traffic issues mostly worked out and it's really no problem to commute in and out. Plus they don't gouge you - it's only about 100 bucks a night for the hotel, which is more or less what you'd pay going through hotels.com. You do have to purchase a minimum of four nights in the hotel, though.

How shall we do this? If people are driving in, we could meet in Nashville and caravan...I'd volunteer to run pickups at the airport, but honestly your best bet is really taking the Bonnaroo shuttle from the Nashville airport out to the grounds. No fuss, no muss. There'll be info about that on bonnaroo.com shortly and I'll try to cut 'n paste the more salient details.

So let's do this: Pick a spot and a date for folks to meet up at the grounds itself. There's a big spot out near Centeroo with some old hippie bobblehead statues up on poles, and it's usually not too crowded. Say, 11 AM on Friday? Or are folks going to wait and come on Saturday, when the Police will headline? (I'm going to try to get there Thursday myself, for a couple different reasons.)

We should probably start a cell phone tree also. I'll volunteer to organize, if people want to send me cell numbers I'll start keeping a list.

(800 posts! Woohoo! ;))

We'll be there on Thurs as soon as they let us in--either driving on Wed. night and staying however far we get or getting up as early as we can and driving on Thurs. I'd bet on the former, my plans for sleeping before exciting things are thwarted about 95% of the time :)

Dive u rock, we have our own event-within-an-event and coordinator!

Aside from the Police, nobody I know is even remotely interested at this and they all wince at the idea of Tool or Widespread headlining. This is rather unfortunate.

I'm going to bite the bullet and see the guys on the tour wherever and whenever... and hopefully not get shot in New Orleans, like the six or nine that did over the course of Mardi Gras already.

I'd die to see this band... hell, I jump into a steel drumset every other show. What's the difference?

Yeah, it does, blue, because Wilco and the White Stripes are both going to pound ass. I'd go to some trouble to see Manu Chao, too.

My only disappointment (well, besides no Gizmo) is no Mike Doughty or Neko Case this year...

Wilco and The White Stripes are under The Police as my favorite there too. I was hoping Bright Eyes and Beck were going to be there, then my girlfriend would have wanted to go definitely.

The biggest disappointment between the first prospective lineup and the announced one was the absence of Tom Waits by far for me...Although the current lienup is intergalactic -- no complaints at all :)
