I think it would flow better if it were simply "Strange Things Happen: Polo, Pygmies, and the Police."
Actually I do, too, though I can understand why the "A Life with" bit comes first.
My vote for revamped subtitle would go to "A Life with Pygmies, Polo, and the Police." The rhythm works for me and you get the double whammy of alliteration and assonance with Polo and the Police together. Plus, you are going from the unexpected to the familiar, a tactic that I feel grabs the readers' attention better.
I like it conceptually but I have to disagree aurally: I personally think the elision of "pygmies_and" is smoother to the vowel jamming of "polo_and."
(Seriously: please don't smite me, Stewart.)
But then again, maybe the thing should read "A Life with Pygmies, Polo, the Police, and Pointing"
HAHA.
Or perhaps "Strange Things Pointing: A Life with . . . "
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
